FORMER OBAMA ADVISOR PLOTTING AFRICAN-STYLE REVOLT IN U.S.
October 2 2011
Washington, D.C. – Few people expected or anticipated the events that led to the downfall of the governments in Tunisia and Egypt earlier this year, no matter how much they say they did now. Those events were true surprises and meaningful changes in the history of the region and perhaps the world. The so-called ‘Arab Spring’ continues even today, albeit a little less successfully.
There was a hope, even a dream, that those revolts would spread across the region and take out all the problematic governments. That hope stalled, though, in Libya, Bahrain, and Syria. The ease of the rebellion in its early days is now contrasted with the horror in those other countries which has seen thousands killed. Now though, the spirit of that rebellion appears to have spread outside the region, possibly even to the United States, particularly if one rebel leader has his way.
“We are going to build a progressive counterbalance to the tea party. Eighty percent of Americans agree with everything that you say on this show, but we have no voice,” said former Green Jobs czar Van Jones. “And you're going to see an American fall, an American autumn, just like we saw the Arab spring. You can see it right now with these young people on Wall Street. Hold onto your hats. We're going to have an October offensive to take back the American dream and to rescue America's middle class."
Jones resigned from the Obama administration in 2009. Like many rebels in Africa, Jones also has access to Twitter and Facebook.
“It’s an interesting threat but I think it’s going to be a lot more challenging to bring about that type of revolt in the U.S. than it was in those other countries. Those countries had a common villain and a very good reason to want to take him out. The U.S. is much more fractured and people have a lot more to protect and that is going to make it a challenge,” said Scrape TV American analyst Dave Davidson. “In those countries people have little or nothing already and so they don’t sacrifice much by rebelling. Generally though, mounting a revolution against the government is not a valid excuse for missing work and is likely to just get you fired, which is something no one wants.”
It’s not clear when Jones plans on launching his assault, not is it clear exactly who he is rebelling against, but is apparently quite angry.
“These other rebellions were very organic and borne out of decades of anger and repression. I get that a lot of people in the U.S. are upset right now but it hardly matches what has gone on in these other countries. I mean three years of frustration is nothing compared to three decades, but I guess anger is anger. I mean if it brings about change then maybe that’s a good thing,” continued Davidson. “I do hope that Jones has thought this through, though. I mean things haven’t gone all that well in those other countries since the rebellions and the same could happen here, especially once the military takes over. That would really put a kink in the economic recovery, a military government. I’m sure spending in that area would become ridiculous very quickly but I guess we will see.”
Jones has apparently gathered dozens of supporters to his cause.
