GABRIELLE GIFFORDS NOT REALLY WHAT SHE VOTED FOR IN RETURN TO HOUSE
August 2 2011
Washington, D.C. – In perhaps the first and only miracle to happen in Washington in a long time, Arizona Representative Gabrielle Giffords returned to Washington to help pass the controversial debt ceiling bill. Giffords, of course, was shot in the head last January but has made a remarkable recovery, allowing her to return to work.
Her vote, and perhaps more importantly her support, helped end the deadlock which had threatened the stability of the entire U.S. economy and pushed it to the edge of default. Unfortunately for Giffords the victory was quickly forgotten soon after it was made, though the theft of her things by fellow Representatives will be long remembered.
“Gabby was thrilled to be back at work and was even more thrilled to help end this deadlock. She wanted to be here to ensure that the bill passed and that things went smoothly. She was sitting at home watching things happen and that is not something she is used to,” said a spokesperson for Giffords. “She was thrilled by the response from her colleagues and the support they showed. Unfortunately she quickly forgot that and now believes that they stole things from her while she was on the floor. They didn’t, she still has those things, but she can’t stop talking about it.”
Giffords has been in outpatient treatment for the last few months. It is not believed that she will make a full recovery but many of her basic functions have remained intact.
“She got really agitated after the vote and started yelling at a few of her fellow representatives but we were able to show her that the things she was worried about she still had. It went on for a little longer but now she is calm,” continued the spokesperson. “She isn’t really sure what she voted for but that it may come back to her eventually, or it may not. She is back home now, with all her stuff, resting.”
The vote allowed the months-long impasse to end, helping to avoid a default and loss of credit rating for the country. In particular, Giffords was concerned about her many hairbrushes.
“Recovering from a traumatic brain injury is a long process. Rarely do people ever come back completely; something of their personality at the very least is often left behind. The brain is remarkable in its ability to recover, but it is not miraculous,” said Scrape TV Medical analyst Dr. Phillip Waites. “Giffords’ actions are fairly common. Not so much the voting on the debt ceiling bill, that is
pretty unique, but the seeing the world a little askew and forgetfulness. That is very common for brain injury patients.”
Giffords apparently doesn’t remember making the trip to Washington, though has a very potent recollection of her childhood tire swing.
“She has really come back quickly, too quickly from my observation, but I don’t know the specifics of her case. Hopefully she isn’t rushing back, or being rushed back. It can be years before people stop accusing others of stealing their things,” continued Waites. “They passed this bill overwhelmingly and they could have done without her vote. It’s great that she wants to get back to work, activity is a good thing, but she can’t push herself too far. That would be dangerous.”
Giffords has apparently collected more than thirty hairbrushes since her incident.
