KARL ROVE TELLS OBAMA TO JUST NOT BOTHER RUNNING IN 2012
June 24 2011
Washington, D.C. – In recent decades it is very rare for an incumbent President to lose his job. In fact, the run has been quite impressive in recent years. Since Franklin Roosevelt took office eighty years ago only two Presidents, Carter and Bush Sr., have
failed to be elected twice (Johnson did not run a second time and Ford was never elected). For whatever reason, people tend to re-elect over and over again, and that legacy is perhaps the greatest challenge for Barack Obama in 2012.
His Presidency is already one of legend, one that will be recorded in the history books as one of the most important leaderships in the country’s history. Whether he stays in office for another four years, or is ousted by one of the many Republican candidates, Barack Obama’s name will be etched very firmly as one of the most important Presidents. That legend is of course not necessarily tied to his economic policies, or his position on healthcare, but rather his race. As much as Obama’s election showed that race didn’t matter, it also showed that it still did. Barack Obama is, and always will be, the first black President and now matter what happens in 2012 that will not change. According to one prominent Republican, that is where the story should end however as Karl Rove made it clear that there was really no reason for Obama to run in 2012 and so he might as well just not bother.
“President Barack Obama is likely to be defeated in 2012. The reason is that he faces four serious threats. The economy is very weak and unlikely to experience a robust
recovery by Election Day. Key voter groups have soured on him. He's defending unpopular policies. And he's made bad strategic decisions,” wrote Rove in an article for the Wall Street Journal. “Mr. Obama is now at the mercy of policies and events he has set in motion. He can't escape accountability, especially on the economy.”
Obama is already an official candidate for 2012.
“Obama’s numbers are certainly not healthy but the election is still a long way off and the truth is, whether people like it or not, that when people go to the polls they tend to go with the person they are most comfortable with, and that is Barack Obama. It’s almost always the incumbent,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “The only times in recent history where we have seen an incumbent lose is when the challenger had a great deal of charisma and engaged the voting public. Whatever you want to say about the Republican field, none of them are Ronald Reagan or Bill Clinton. That alone, policies aside, could put Obama back in the White House come 2012. That is unless, like Rove says, all the major candidates for after him. That would require a major change in the constitution but it could happen I suppose.”
Mitt Romney, Michele Bachmann, Tim Pawlenty and possibly Sarah Palin are all considered Republican front runners.
“If the Republicans can gang up on Obama they may have a shot, but ultimately the party is probably only going to be able to run one candidate. That isn’t really the point of Rove’s article though. It appears that he is trying to scare Obama, to push him out before things really get started, and that could have an effect,” continued Kinsey. “Obama is really all the Democrats have and if he backs down, if he falls away, there will be a Republican President. There’s no two ways around it, the Dems have put all their eggs in the Obama basket and if he gets cold feet, they win. I don’t know how much Obama listens to Rove, but maybe if he writes a few more opinion pieces, maybe, he could push Obama out of the running and that will mean a Republican President.”
It’s expected that Rove and other Republican power players will be writing more articles leading up to the election. It’s not clear if Obama reads the Wall Street Journal.
