NBC APOLOGIZES BUT SUGGESTS BACHMANN IS LUCKY THEY LET HER ON TV AT ALL
November 24 2011
New York, NY – In any election season there will always be controversies, both real ones and ones that aren’t really a big deal. The Herman Cain controversy, as an example, is a kind of big deal. Mitt Romney’s magic underwear could be a big deal. Rick Perry opening his mouth has certainly been a big deal. Michele Bachmann’s appearance on Jimmy Fallon? Not such a big deal.
Well, it shouldn’t have been anyways.
A big deal is exactly what that appearance has become in wake of the mild outcry over the song played as the congresswoman entered the studio. Specifically, the song played was entitled ‘Lyin' Ass Bitch’, which caused a bit of a stir for Bachmann and her team. Now NBC has issued an official apology for the song and any offence it may have caused, and Bachmann has accepted that apology, saying that she would love to appear on the show again. NBC officials, while no doubt relieved that the controversy has now blown over, appear in no rush to invite Bachmann back to the show now or ever.
“If that song had been played for Michelle Obama I have no doubt that NBC would've apologized to her and likely they could've fired the drummer or at least suspended him. None of that happened from NBC and this is clearly a form of the bias on the part of the Hollywood entertainment elite,” Bachmann said after being told the title of the song. “This amounts to sexism. It wouldn't be tolerated if it was Michelle Obama and shouldn't be tolerated for a conservative woman, either.”
NBC officials declined to comment on Bachmann’s interpretation of the word sexism or what it means in the apology.
Fallon himself has said that he would like Bachmann back on the show and would even let her choose her own intro song, if that ever happens, which is unlikely.
“I can certainly understand why she got upset by it but, frankly, she should feel lucky that she was on the show at all. We didn’t have Jon Hunstman on the show, or that other guy, whatever his name is. They weren’t on the show and she was and she
should really be grateful,” said an NBC insider. “I mean there aren’t any other talk
shows putting her on and she should be grateful to get the airtime yet here she is throwing it back in our face. I can tell you right now that that kind of behaviour isn’t going to make her any friends here at the old BC.”
Bachmann has not been booked for another appearance on the show. It’s not clear how many people actually watched the appearance, it being on Jimmy Fallon.
“We were considering not even giving her an opening song. It costs us money to have the band there the whole time and while we normally do spend that money anyways, well sometimes it’s worth it sometimes it isn’t. The whole thing is just a little ungrateful, frankly,” continued the insider. “If she gets the nomination or you know appears in a movie or rescues hostages or something we might have her on again, but those are big ifs, really big ones.”
Bachmann reportedly had help reading the big words in the apology letter.
