NEWT GINGRICH DOESN’T WANT ANY OF THEM GAY VOTES
December 22 2011
Oskaloosa, IA - There are certain people who will always vote with their group, something which is both a boon and a burden to politicians. It means that there will always be groups of people on which to rely and groups which they will never access and, after all, being a politician means getting as many votes as possible, generally regardless of where they come from.
This time around, this election cycle, that does not appear to be the case for at least some of the candidates. Just two weeks ago, Mitt Romney was blunt with his views on same-sex marriage with a gay veteran and on Wednesday, while campaigning in Iowa ahead of the January 3rd primary, Newt Gingrich told a different gay man to vote for Barack Obama.
While normally votes of any kind are like gold to politicians, it appears that Gingrich at least only wants certain types of votes, specifically straight votes, and none of that gay stuff, not in his campaign.
“I think for those for whom the only issue that really matters is the definition of marriage I won't get their support, and I accept that that's a reality. On the other hand, for those for whom it's not the central issue in their life--if they care about job creation, if they care about national security, if they care about a better future for the country at large, then I think I'll get their support,” Gingrich told CBS News. “...if that's the most important issue for you then you should be for Obama.”
Gingrich earlier had told a gay voter exactly that, essentially telling him that he didn’t want his vote.
It’s not clear if votes have a sexual preference, but Gingrich appears to prefer to hedge his bets and not gay up the election process.
“Newt doesn’t want gay votes. He wants to win this election legitimately, through campaigning and nailing his opponents. He has no interest in pandering for votes, especially for gay votes which everyone knows don’t really count. It’s just a waste of time and energy for him to try and secure those votes, those gay votes,” said an insider with the Gingrich campaign. “He has no interest in that. Unlike his opponents, however, he believes gay people should have the right to vote but he doesn’t want any of that himself. He doesn’t want o be known as the first gay President.”
The unnamed voter who confronted Gingrich shook his hand at the end of the exchange. Gingrich quickly sanitized his palm and went on about his day.
“Generally, even in the Midwest, gay votes have the same weight as straight votes. All votes count in the same way, unless of course they are cast for Ron Paul. No one wants his votes to count, not the Republican Party and certainly not the candidates. Not because they are gay or anything, just because,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “Because the election process is secret it’s really difficult to tell whether or not a particular vote came from a gay person or a straight one, or even something in between. I mean this man could very well vote for Gingrich and no one would be the wiser, and that would make Gingrich a gay candidate without him even knowing about it. I’m sure he wouldn’t like that but sometimes these things are unavoidable.”
Iowa had considered offering a selection of coloured ballots, including pink, but citing expense dropped the idea late last month.
