PALIN SAYS NO TO 2012 HALFWAY THROUGH CAMPAIGN SEASON
October 6 2011
Wasilla, AK – In a week of good news/bad news for Republicans, one more story has been added to the mix. Sarah Palin will not seek the Republican nomination for President, believing she can be more effective as an outsider.
Following Chris Christie’s decision to not run in 2012, Palin is the second and arguably most prominent Republican to drop out of the ever contracting, and sleep inducing, Republican field. Palin had been the most speculated about for a potential run but had been very vague about her plans even months after most candidates had already been on the trail raising money and entering debates.
The final decision, for now, has been made and the list of candidates to challenge incumbent Barack Obama contracts even more. Palin, for her part, vows to continue fighting for the Republican way and for the American people, provided her television career doesn’t get in the way of that.
“From the bottom of my heart I thank those who have supported me and defended my record throughout the years, and encouraged me to run for President. Know that by working together we can bring this country back – and as I’ve always said, one doesn’t need a title to help do it,” Palin wrote, in part, to her supporters. “My decision is based upon a review of what common sense Conservatives and Independents have accomplished, especially over the last year. I believe that at this time I can be more effective in a decisive role to help elect other true public servants to office – from the nation’s governors to Congressional seats and the Presidency.”
Palin was also interviewed briefly about her decision before leaving part way through a question with no real explanation.
Palin will likely continue her speaking tours and working on Fox News, two efforts which make her millions of dollars annually.
“As unpopular as Obama is right now, there really aren’t any challengers to his position. As much as people would like to believe that, like it was with Obama gaining office, the election will be a judgement on the party people tend to vote for a person not a party, at least the important swing voters do,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “Unfortunately the Republican field is flat. Perry is on his way out, no one will take Cain seriously, and Romney is a Mormon. Really, it’s now just about the better of the defaults rather than the best person for the job, not that Palin would have done much to change that.”
There are other candidates in the race but none of them are taken particularly seriously.
“At the very least Palin would have spiced up the field and been a disruptive force. She may not have won, but she would have made the whole race more exciting and in doing so engaged the candidates on a deeper level but with her gone, well it’s just a little boring,” continued Kinsey. “I can almost see her now, walking out in the middle of debates, walking out in the middle of interviews, she would have given real zest to the proceedings but that just won’t happen now. It’s too bad because half the job is at least half way there, something that likely won’t happen with the current crop of candidates.”
Palin apparently managed to finish her whole dinner last night.
