RICK PERRY MAY MOVE THE CAPITAL TO TEXAS IF ELECTED

August 23 2011

Austin, TX – In a very short period of time Rick Perry has become a front-line candidate for President. While the early buzz circled around names such as Bachmann, Palin, and Romney most of them have faded into the background as Perry’s profile has started to surge across the country and across the political landscape. Smart early bets would put him as the Republican candidate to beat.rick perry candidate

Perry, though, is not without controversy. He is a devout Christian, he is on the far right of the political spectrum, and his early status as a front-runner may cause people to tire of him quickly, particularly the all-important swing voters.

Elections, despite what most people would like to believe, are rarely won or lost on the issues. They are almost always decided on the person, and their stance only influences the public opinion of who they are. However, occasionally issues do make decisions in the process and with word that Perry would seek a doctrine to move the federal headquarters to his home state if elected may serve to upset any chances he has of winning in 2012.

“He believes that business as usual in Washington has gotten us into a huge mess and he wants to change that. He feels the best way to change that is to move Washington itself. He feels that people have become too entrenched in doing things one way and that a change of locale will cause them to act differently,” said a Perry capitol building
insider. “Naturally, he feels that Texas is the best place to move things. He feels the government needs a Texan attitude, that that is what can change politics and the country for the better. He’d also like to be closer to home, but that’s just a side benefit.”

It’s not clear what would be required to move all federal functions to Texas, but it would likely cost a lot of money.

“Obviously he isn’t going to be silly about things. He isn’t going to move the White House or the Pentagon to Texas. They have plenty of buildings here in Austin to house federal functions. The Governor’s mansion would be a fine place for the President, The county offices could take over for the Capitol building, and there is a nice place just outside of town where the military could run the operations. It’s open and very pretty,” continued the insider. “He feels, that in the scope of everything the government spend money on, that a move would just be a percentage on a percentage and hardly worth worrying about. That in fact the benefits would outweigh the deficits and he will make that case if, when, he wins.”

It’s not clear if Perry would want to move immediately or would be willing to commute for a few months while the various issues are worked out.

“This is really an issue that could cost Perry the election. If this becomes a big thing, if austin 6th street
it becomes something people really take note of, he could be in trouble. People in Texas may turn out but they will anyways, but he would likely lose places like Maryland, Virginia, and D.C. itself in terms of votes. They aren’t going to want to see their cash cow vanish,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “One also has to wonder how the country would be governed from Austin. D.C. is a nice middle ground between the north and south, but Texas could change the attitude of the country in deep ways which may not be good. I would imagine there would be more than a little resistance though and it may not happen no matter how hard Perry tries. Austin is not known for strip clubs, not really.”

The U.S. Supreme Court would likely be moved to 6th Street, home of the yearly biker rallies and Pecan Festival.
