GINGRICH REALLY WISHING FOR MOON DELEGATES AFTER GETTING TROUNCED IN FLORIDA
February 1 2012
Tampa, FL – For a little while it seemed that the race in Florida might be another squeaker. The polling between Mitt Romney and Newt Gingrich was close in the days leading up to the election and then, suddenly, things seemed to turn in Romney’s favour, something which very much showed itself when voters actually went to the polls, giving Romney a double digit win and possibly ending Gingrich’s hopes forever.
The battle is not over, no doubt about that, but Florida was an important state, one that if often at the centre of all Presidential battles. A win in Florida is a big deal, and the way in which Romney won, gaining nearly half the votes, may well push him ahead in other states and give him the nomination most have expected for a long time.
There are big battlegrounds ahead, no doubt, and many of those are southern states where Gingrich, a southerner himself, is expected to do well but the loss in Florida could be death knell for his campaign, particularly without the delegates from the future moon colony Gingrich had been banking on to boost his candidacy.
“My leadership will end the Obama era and begin a new era of American prosperity. When we gather back here in Tampa seven months from now for our convention, ours will be a united party with a winning ticket for America,” said Romney during his victory speech.
Gingrich muttered some stuff under his breath and then stormed off the stage during his rally, smashing everything in his way.
Rick Santorum and Ron Paul also made speeches but no one really paid attention.
“What we saw in Florida was likely the complete collapse of the Gingrich campaign. If he had remained competitive we might have had something but he was beaten badly and that will resonate with voters in other states. He may not see it, and he may still have a theoretical chance, but really did go to Mitt Romney last night,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “If Gingrich stays in, and he probably will, he will likely win in a few more states but there simply aren’t enough friendly to him to allow him to pull this victory out. I doubt that even if the moon colony existed there would be enough to push him over the top.”
It’s not clear how many delegates a theoretical moon colony would offer, or how difficult campaigning would be in zero-g.
“It’s been an unlikely run and for anyone else, like say for Santorum, you would say they should happy with that but of course Gingrich wouldn’t listen to such a notion and for him it really doesn’t matter. It’s win or go home and it looks like he will be going home, his terrestrial home at least,” continued Kinsey. “He’ll be around for a little while longer, he’s that way, but here in Earth he has lost his chance at being President now and forever. His dreams of running the country and making the moon the 51st state are gone forever and that is something he will just have to accept, eventually anyway.”
The next Primary will be in Nevada, which may as well be the moon.
