GINGRICH RECEIVES RINGING ENDORSEMENT FROM TODD PALIN
January 9 2012
Wasilla, AK – It is likely, very likely, that John McCain had no idea what he was unleashing on the world when he chose Sarah Palin as his running mate almost four years ago. For some the choice was a savvy, almost brilliant coup that nearly got him
the attention he needed to have a chance at winning the election. For most people though it was a poor choice, picking a slightly dull and totally inexperienced nobody as a running mate.
Regardless, that is what he did and in the years since Sarah Palin has become, arguably, more powerful in defeat than she ever could have become in victory, similar to Obi-Wan Kenobi. Despite all the ridicule and criticism of her, and despite all the ludicrous statements and claims by Palin, she has become a real voice in the Republican Party, if only for the more extreme ends of the spectrum.
That power has certainly diminished recently, perhaps best exemplified by Palin’s decision to not run for President but still Palin has a voice and a stature with a significant portion of the population. It is not just Palin herself though that that power extends to, it also includes those around her including her family. Now one of those people, husband Todd, has come out in support of one candidate, Newt Gingrich, earning the one-time front runner one of the most coveted endorsement of 2012.
“I believe that being in the political trenches and experiencing the highs and lows help prepare a candidate for the future and the job of president,” Palin told ABC News. “Gingrich’s ability to overcome the obstacle and still move up in the polls showed his ability to campaign and survive and his campaign burst out of the political arena and touched many Americans.”
Gingrich finished a distant third in Iowa and is polling even lower in New Hampshire, at about 11 percent, meaning that he has 11 percent of less than fifty percent of the support in that state.
Palin is a snowmobile racer by trade, which generally doesn’t require a lot of math.
He also stated that his wife hasn’t decided whom Gingrich should choose for a running mate. It’s not clear if he will state that publicly or simply work hand-in-hand with the Gingrich campaign to work on that decision.
“Political spouses rarely if ever come out and say anything about their politics. It’s pretty standard actually, unless of course the spouse themselves are politicians like say the Clintons. Usually though the spouse just keeps his or her opinions to themselves so as not to upset the apple cart for their husband or wife, though at this stage I guess that doesn’t really matter much,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “For Gingrich though this is great news. This is really a ringing endorsement and it bodes well for his chances in the Alaskan Primary. Well, I mean it would if there was an Alaskan Primary. Maybe that’s something Gingrich can work out, maybe cancel the Guam primary and move it to Wasilla. That would give him a much better chance. Though I’m sure the other candidates would be hesitant to move it to a state that is so obviously a lock for Gingrich, that would be bad politics.”
Palin wore his snowmobiling outfit throughout the interview and quickly zoomed off after it was done, trailing a banner supporting Gingrich behind him as he went.
