HUNTSMAN BEHIND STEPHEN COLBERT IN SOUTH CAROLINA BUT STILL AHEAD OF OTHER
January 10 2012
Columbia, SC – Every election cycle there are people who try, try very hard, to get some kind of attention and if not actually make a run for the office, at least get their voice heard. Sometimes those names are new, sometimes they are perennials, but in every cycle they exist and for most of them it ends up going nowhere.
This time around, particularly with the Republicans, that has very much been the case. A year ago, no one really knew Michele Bachmann, Rick Perry, Herman Cain, or Rick Santorum but they certainly do now. Whatever the end results of the election process for each of those candidates, they have certainly done wonders for their public persona.
Jon Huntsman, well not so much. In theory, Huntsman is a great candidate for the Republicans. He is clean, he has experience, and he can appeal to the base and the swing voters alike, but Huntsman has not managed to gain much, if any, momentum in the run for office. After spending months in New Hampshire he will surely show better tonight, but that may not mean much, already far behind the field in the next primary in South Carolina, even behind television character Stephen Colbert. The one bright spot though is the gap he is building on other, which so crushed him in Iowa.
“We are really confident about New Hampshire and we feel that success there will bring

success across the rest of the country. The numbers aren’t great in South Carolina, to be sure, but remember that not all those candidates are actually running. We are sure that a few of the people who would think of running for Colbert will switch over to us. Jon has a great sense of humour,” said an insider with the Huntsman campaign. “We are seeing real momentum here. The gap between Jon and other is really the biggest success and really shows to us that he is gaining some ground, that we are gaining some ground. First, we get past other, then Perry, then all the way to the top. That’s the way we see it.”
Huntsman has been polling very high in New Hampshire after living there for the last six months. He won’t have the same amount of time in South Carolina to try and build a support base.
“Look, we have always had realistic expectations when it comes to this campaign. We realized that there were some real power players in the race and that it would be tough for us to get any kind of traction, but here we are, still in race unlike some other people I will not mention. We feel we have the ability to outlast just about anyone and be in this until the end. At the very least, we want to see other out of the race,” continued the insider. “Not that we have anything against other, but this is politics. We build rivals and we fight them. That’s the way the game is played. Hopefully it will all be worth it because the most important part of politics is where it gets you, into making the country a better place, something Jon Huntsman is far more capable of doing than other, any day of the week.”
Huntsman is far ahead of other in New Hampshire. Colbert is not running in that state and is expected to also finish ahead of other in South Carolina.
