OBAMA OFFICIALLY WINS FIRST ROUND OF THE POLITICAL BATTLE OF THE BANDS WITH POOR SHOWING FROM ROMNEY
January 31 2012
Washington, D.C. – Much ado was made a couple of weeks back when President Obama got up on stage an belted out a couple of lines from Al Green’s most famous of songs. His impromptu display of vocal prowess became a big story, not only for showing the generally austere President in a light mood, but also because his singing was pretty good. Perhaps not Al Green good, but still pretty good.
That attention, and the mostly good will that came with it, has now become a part of the political process it appears. Wanting to capitalize on the focus the President got from that singing session, Presidential hopeful Mitt Romney, perhaps hoping to lighten up his persona a little bit, also took to singing, albeit not nearly as adept as the President.
However the effort has set up what could be one of the more interesting political battles in recent memory, should Romney end up getting the Presidential nomination, one that could redefine politics in America forever and perhaps even change the way Democracy works around the world, turning it into a talent show first and a political game second, something which will undoubtedly draw in young voters.
“There is no doubt that Obama’s singing was much better. No one can really debate that but it could have been an off night for Romney. It could also have been his choice of song. Not every singer can sing every song, that’s something that young singers often have a lot of difficulty getting past. They think they can do anything, but they
can’t,” said Scrape TV Music analyst Dylan Chambers. “Romney’s performance was flat but it was more robust, longer, and that speaks to his confidence in his ability. Sometimes that’s more important than signing skill, the attitude bleeds through.”
Neither politician has taken voice lessons in the past.
Romney chose ‘America the Beautiful’ which many observers criticized as a far too obvious choice.
“When you are talking about these high stakes types of games you really need to get it right. A decade of ‘American Idol’ has shown that the choice of song is very, very important to the process and to having success. Singing the wrong song could end

your shot before it even starts,” continued Chambers. “That said, it’s pretty obvious that Obama has more natural talent. That doesn’t mean he’ll win when they put this
up for the masses, putting on a show does matter, but it certainly gives him a leg up right now.”
Both men apparently sing in the shower where Romney is reportedly a lot looser.
“I think once the competition starts to heat up we will see what they are really made of, their mettle will come out. It’s going to be interesting to be sure if Romney does in fact get the nomination. I can’t imagine Gingrich having much a voice and Santorum would likely just sing hymns. No one would even listen to Ron Paul so that wouldn’t be much of a show,” continued Chambers. “In the singing portion I would go with Obama right now but showmanship is something still up in the air and that could end up being the thing that decided the election, for good or ill.”
Jon Hunstman, long out of the race now, was heard to be kicking himself after finding out about the talent portion of the race.
