TSA DETAINS SENATOR RAND PAUL BUT NO ONE SEEMS TO CARE

January 23 2012

Nashville, TN – Every now and then a thing comes along that everyone grabs a hold of and makes it into something much bigger than it really is. It almost doesn’t matter what that thing is, it’s just a thing that happens and when people lose interest in that thing, some other thing comes along to replace it. It’s just what happens, over and over again.rand paul senator\

Over the last year or so one of those things has been the TSA, the Transportation Security Administration which has drawn a lot of attention and flack for its occasionally aggressive tactics in trying to prevent illicit materials on planes. Whether it is full body scans or robust pat downs, people seem to like complaining about the TSA as they do their best to prevent planes from being blown up, especially when a celebrity gets involved.

Today, a new sensation has arisen around the TSA after Senator Rand Paul, the son of Presidential candidate Ron Paul, got himself caught up in a pat down and of course made a big deal about it, being all Libertarian and such and loving to get his name in the newspapers. It appears though, despite his best efforts, not many people are really all that concerned about the TSA’s actions, or at least not when they affect Rand Paul.

“My son @SenRandPaul being detained by TSA for refusing full body pat-down after anomaly in body scanner in Nashville. More details coming,” Ron Paul tweeted, likely setting the stage for a conversation about liberty and the TSA at tonight’s Republican debate.   rand paul detained

The story was confirmed by Paul’s press secretary who is kind of cute and gets some attention for the Senator from Kentucky, especially on the popular Twitter site.

It isn’t believed that Paul was trying to smuggle anything other than self-righteous indignation onto the plane.

“The TSA is, undoubtedly, the front line on the war on terror. Well, them and the soldiers in Afghanistan and Port Authority and a whole host of other agencies. They are all part of one big mechanism that protects America from being blown up because that’s what terrorists do,” said Scrape TV American analyst Dave Davidson. “That is how they had so much success in the past and how they have become such a concern. I wouldn’t put it past them to try and use a famous person to smuggle weapons or bombs onto a plane. Really, it would be the easiest and most efficient way to do something like that and blow the thing up. I guess they didn’t this time which is probably good.”

Paul was released from the TSA’s grabby hands shortly afterwards, presumably feeling both his body and rights had been violated.rand paul tsa

“The harsh reality is that you need to sacrifice some liberty for security, the question is where the line is drawn. People want to feel safe but they don’t want to pay for it. In an ideal world only the terrorists would be investigated but unfortunately the world is not ideal and occasionally innocent people get caught up in the mechanism,” continued Davidson. “Luckily for Paul he is a Senator and protected from prosecution so unless he had bombs surgically implanted into his body, everything should be good. Technically even if he had been carrying a knife or a gun or a bomb he would have gone free, unless they considered that treason which they might well do.”

As expected, Ron Paul has made a big deal out of the incident, getting him more attention than his son once again.
