WELL OF COURSE GINGRICH LIKES RONALD REAGAN NOW

January 26 2012

Washington, D.C. – Rose-coloured glasses, absence making the heart grow fonder. Those are just some of the many words that have been spoken about how fondly we look upon the past no matter how tough or awful the past really was. Nostalgia has a funny effect on the brain, making us see things in a totally new light that would have been unimaginable when those things were actually happening.ronald reagan

That is no doubt that many people in the Republican Party now feel about Ronald Reagan all these years after he left the White House. Liked in his time, Reagan has become much, much more in recent years, a legend of sorts, perhaps even a saint to the Right Wing. Reagan has become in death an icon, something he never achieved in his lifetime.

His presence has become so powerful in fact that to gain any real kind of traction in the Republican Party, candidates fight over his affections, even all these years after his death, hoping in many ways to receive an endorsement from beyond the grave. Recently, New Gingrich has fought for that connection, bringing up time and time again his connection with Reagan whom he loves now, even if he hated him back then, for no other reason than because he was such a great President and Republican icon, seriously, that’s the only reason.

Gingrich, though, has now started to receive a great deal of criticism and even ridicule for his connection to the former President, especially now that his true feelings from that period have started to come out, feelings he swears he no longer has any more, not even a little bit.ronald reagan president

“Beyond the obvious indicators of decay, the fact is that President Reagan has lost control of the national agenda,” Gingrich said in 1983, a line he continued for years, saying in 1986; “Measured against the scale and momentum of the Soviet empire’s challenge, the Reagan administration has failed, is failing, and without a dramatic change in strategy will continue to fail. . . . President Reagan is clearly failing.”

Those words have very much come back to haunt Gingrich now, particularly after his efforts to so strongly connect himself to Reagan, going so far as to say he helped the President defeat Communism, something that simply rings more true today than it did back in the day.

“It’s pretty clear at this stage that Gingrich has stepped into a political minefield that newt gingrich ronald reagan
he is completely incapable of navigating. He has built himself up as one thing, but his past has come back to declare him something else entirely and that is a problem politically,” said Scrape TV Political analyst Gabriel Kinsey. “Gingrich may like Reagan more now than he did back then, that is entirely possible, but it’s unlikely that people will buy into that. I mean it’s possible, look what happened in South Carolina, people do lose their minds, but this could be the thing that undoes him. Unfortunately nostalgia doesn’t have much of a place in politics. Maybe someday he’ll look back on all this and see how funny it all was, but right now he is in tough with this ghost floating overhead.”

Reporters camped outside Reagan’s grave in California apparently heard moans coming from the site, which may have just been the wind.
