FLYING CARS UNLIKELY BEFORE THE END OF THE YEAR

January 11 2010

Detroit, MI – Frequently our dreams never reach fruition. While most people are keenly aware of that fact, reminded every day by their lack of a mansion and jet-setting around the globe, some dreams are hard to let die. One of those areas that back to the future hoverboard
frequently fails to live up to expectations is in technology which, on occasion, outstrips expectations but more frequently ends up disappointing. In a world where we have mapped the human genome and are able to communicate with people around the world instantaneously, housing developments on the Moon and time machines are still nothing but fantasy.

One of the biggest disappointments for technology watchers has undoubtedly been the complete lack of flying cars. Envisioned in books and movies, the 21st century promised unlimited transportation opportunities with cars being able to break the bonds of gravity chief among them. Alas, ten years into the future flying cars are nowhere to be seen in our blade runner
skies. People have tried of course but virtually every attempt has come crashing, literally, back down to Earth, with the only successes resembling helicopters more than cars. The future doesn’t look much better either with car companies dedicating resources to electric vehicles rather than the long dreamt of flying car. The industry has now more or less put the final nail in the coffin of hopes that we would one day be soaring through the air.

“We are not working on a flying car in any capacity at the moment. I can’t say what our competitors are doing exactly but I have heard no talk of flying cars from any other company. I think it’s pretty much a lock that we won’t be seeing flying cars anytime soon,” said a spokesperson for GM. “We would all like to see them just like everyone else but there are a lot of technical and financial obstacles that will prevent us from producing those types of vehicles in the immediate future. Maybe someday but don’t start counting the days just yet.”the jetsons

One major reason for the lack of flying car development is the recent economic turmoil that has burdened the big three car companies, though companies in Japan, South Korea, Germany, and Italy are similarly not pursuing such development.

“I don’t think there is a driver alive today who isn’t a little disappointed at the lack of flying cars. The dream of flying through the skies rather than being stuck to roads is something people all across the world can share but there is a distinct possibility that that dream will never come to fruition. Not because of economics or lack of desire, but sometimes certain things are just impossible,” said Scrape TV Technology analyst Ken Kevins. “There is this notion that because you can imagine it you can make it happen but logic doesn’t follow that. People dream up dragons and elves and smurfs but none of those things exist and never will and likely the same fate will befall flying cars.”chitty chitty bang bang

Other obstacles such as traffic enforcement and the inability of many people to drive terrestrial-bound vehicles are also cited as a reason for the lack of advances in the flying car.

“I know people who specifically lived long enough to hit the 21st century in order to see flying cars but now they are hanging on day after day for something that still isn’t coming and may never. It’s really disappointing but sometimes life is like that,” continued Kevins. We do still have ninety years left in the century so maybe something will happen and that day will very, very cool.”

The jetpack industry has also acknowledged that personal jetpacks are also unlikely by the end of the year.
