BIONIC CAT HERALDS NEW STEP IN FELINE EVOLUTION

June 30 2010

London, U.K. – Evolution has certainly given mankind an incredible gift. Our sophistication has been perhaps the most remarkable feat in the history of the planet. The forming of planets is relatively common, recent discoveries on Mars and Titan earth
indicate that the genesis of life may well be very common, but with human beings something truly remarkable occurred. Millions of species live and have lived on our planet, some for incredible lengths of time, but none have made the mark that human beings have had, no other species has been able to dominate every other species and spread across the globe.

Of course, our domination over the planet and over virtually all other species of life hasn’t been done in isolation. Other animals have played a major role in our advancement as a species. Cows for instance have been a regular source of food and sustenance for centuries. Horses and camels were the vehicles of war that helped define our modern borders and military technology. Cats and dogs have lived with us, been guards and companions and evolved alongside us. While all those animals have been domesticated by us, they in turn have received protection from the violence of the real world. Now though the common housecat has apparently made an exciting yet potentially dangerous step forward after a London kitty was fitted with bionic feet.small kitten

"The real revolution with Oscar is we have put a piece of metal and a flange into which skin grows into an extremely tight bone. We have managed to get the bone and skin to grow into the implant and we have developed an 'exoprosthesis' that allows this implant to work as a see-saw on the bottom of an animal's limbs to give him effectively normal gait,” said Noel Fitzpatrick, the veterinarian who fitted the cat. “He should in time behave in a perfectly normal manner and be the same cat that he was before the accident which took his legs. We hope this example will help prove the technology and provide a new venue for such procedures in the future.”terminator 2

Fitzpatrick stated that he did not believe that any bionic implants would spread to other parts of the body such as the brain.

“We’ve seen this type of thing in fiction before and if we have learned anything from fiction it’s that reality can be far more frightening and dangerous. There is no evidence, yet, that bionics are able to actually affect the mind and behaviour of an animal but that doesn’t mean it couldn’t happen,” said Scrape TV Apocalypse analyst Seth Morris. “While this particular cat may not be seriously advanced by the technology but he could be the harbinger, the prototype that could eventually lead to more and more sophisticated hybrids that would eventually start to build their own versions and take over the world. Granted that is a extreme scenario but anything is possible with this kind of new technology.”

‘Oscar’ has not yet displayed super strength but has apparently become more aggressive at the dinner table.hissing cat

“In many ways cats hit the evolutionary jackpot when they encountered humans. In the wild they would be fighting for their very lives but alongside humans their every need is taken care of. In many ways they have domesticated us just as much as we have domesticated them but now it may be time for them to take charge and that could be scary,” continued Morris. “They come from a very ferocious breed and there is every reason to believe that they will be as innately aggressive as their bigger cousins now that they are equipped with these new tools. By making these advances to save the beloved pet we may very well have doomed our species and all we have built.”

The same technology has also been used on humans in limited trial applications but has not yet created a race of super beings.
