ERADICATION OF WILD TIGER POPULATION NEARLY COMPLETE

July 20 2010

Dhaka, Bangladesh – There was a time when wild animals ruled the world. When mankind was still a fledgling species trying to make its way from the African plains to the wider world many species dominated particular areas of the globe. Of course our saber tooth tiger skull
ancestors had first-hand experience with such species, Africa being home to the majority of the world’s top-level predators. While some of those species, like the sabre-toothed cat, have long gone extinct many mega fauna still wander through the wilds of our largely tamed world, one of the most famous of which is the Tiger.

An animal of mystery, intrigue and even religious devotion, the tiger has long been a feared and loved animal. Though capable of killing a man in seconds, the tiger has nonetheless become one of the most recognizable and beloved species on the planet. The tiger though has suffered greatly despite our love for the animals. Once dominant throughout Asia the wild population of the species has been reduced to only four countries; China, India, Indonesia, and Bangladesh and a population about that of an average sized High School. Much of that erosion has occurred in the last twenty years, reducing the population from a high of 100,000 in 1990 to the current levels, a massive reduction that has environmentalists concerned and just about everyone else happy that the man eating beast has almost been eliminated from the natural world.angry tiger

“It is alarming that out of the nine tiger sub-species in the world, only six are remaining. In Indonesia alone, only Sumatran tigers still exist, while the other two sub-species have become extinct. We no longer have Bali tiger since 1940s and Java tiger since 1980s. In fact, the existence of Sumatran tiger is also alarming, so we endeavour to conserve them through a mix of strategic policy, regulation and action,” said Indonesian Forestry Minister Zulkifli Hasa. “There is a very real possibility that we will in our lifetimes see the end of the tiger in the wild, losing a top predator and disrupting the food chain forever.”

Many environmentalists are also concerned that the loss of the tiger could also indicate a level of erosion capable of killing other mega fauna, though some are not so concerned.swimming tiger

“Look, these are vicious man eating beasts. Sure on TV they are all cute and cuddly but that’s because they behave in similar ways to housecats but housecats these are not. These animals are capable of killing a fully grown man with a single swipe of their paw, these aren’t cute and cuddly animals,” said Drake Carver of the U.S. based Bertram Society. “When something is threat we kill it. Mankind has spread all over the planet and we haven’t done that by being nice to every other species. These animals are taking up space that could be used for more worthwhile developments. I mean there is a reason God made zoos and we should be using them.”

It’s not clear when the first real zoos were created but there is no mention of them in the Bible.

“There certainly was a time when it was essential to live alongside other species on the bengal tiger
planet, to cooperate with them and work in concert to survive but the simple reality is that that is not the situation anymore. We are the apex predator of the world and our ability to evolve and adapt has allowed that, something these other species have not done,” continued Carver. “I mean if a bear walked into your yard you would shoot it. That bear would kill you, kill your children, and not think twice about it. It’s better to kill it before it can do any damage to you and your family and that applies to tigers in exactly the same way.”

Tigers, being incapable of speech, had no comment.
