ASTRONOMERS FIGURING OUT A WAY TO DESTROY SOLAR SYSTEM SIMILAR TO OUR OWN
December 29 2010
Paris, France – The harsh reality of life is that the Earth is not going to be around forever. In reality the planet is at about middle age, about 4.5 billion years old. In another 5 billion the sun will expand into a red giant and completely consume the
inner planets before shedding its outer layers and becoming a nebula. That will be the end of Earth and the end of everything and everyone that has ever happened or lived. All history, all art, all love will be destroyed when the Earth is eaten by our star.
Whether or not human beings are still even alive at that time is something else entirely. In the scope of the history we are a blip, only a few million years old, and though we have accomplished incredible things in our short time there is no guarantee that we will last for five billion years. Our planet is replete with extinction, one could say that species simply evolve to be exterminated, and no matter how sophisticated we might be, our fate is the same as all other species. That is unless we are able to move away from the planet and establish ourselves in space stations or, ideally, on another planet like one European astronomers might have found. Unfortunately, they are already busy working on ways to destroy that entire solar system.
“The star is incredibly similar to ours and the planetary line-up is very similar. The star has the same kind of wobble that our sun has. All signs point to this being a great candidate for a system that could potentially support the types of life we have on Earth which makes it a tantalizing target for future exploration,” said one of the researchers. “This also means that we now have a place to go and that will likely make people lazy and not try to save our own planet. People want the easy way out and this could be that which is why we are looking at ways to possibly destroy the entire system to prevent people on Earth from getting lazy.”
The new system is 127 light-years away. In kilometres that is really far away.
“We cannot allow a precious resource like our planet simply go to waste because people think there is some safety net out there. We will not be able to travel to that system in our lifetimes and perhaps never and so it is not a practical solution to solve our woes, which is why we need to destroy it,” continued the researcher. “We are working on a number of potential solutions but it is likely that we will launch something at the star and have it either collapse or explode. That will take care of the system and any possibility of using the planets their as a haven for lazy people on Earth.”
Thus far science has not created a device to destroy stars, though such a thing has been postulated in fiction.
“I remember that one Star Trek movie where Malcolm McDowell tried to destroy a series of stars to send him back to this thing called the nexus. The technology he used there was really not practical and simply doesn’t exist and so that is not a reasonable model. Add to the fact that it would require a rocket with a lot of fuel and it’s just impractical,” said Scrape TV Science analyst Dr. Howard Poe. “I can certainly see the advantage of destroying this system but I think from a practical standpoint it’s probably better to just try and convince people to take care of the planet we do have rather than worry about destroying somebody else’s. Spend that money and time on ourselves.”
Some have brought up the possibility of a potential alien species uncovering our effort to destroy them and possibly launch a counter attack as another reason to avoid attempting such drastic action.
