BOARD GAMES MAY START TO COME TO LIFE IF WARM WEATHER CONTINUES
February 3 2012
Washington, D.C. – You aren’t going to find many people complaining about the incredibly warm winter currently under way through most of North America. You certainly aren’t going to hear people complaining about not having the shovel driveways or having to drive through sleet and snow, and there is no way people will be complaining about being able to sit outside in the dead of winter. All in all, it’s been pretty good for most people.
Sure, plow drivers, ski resorts, and kids wanting to build snowmen have certainly been disappointed with the warm weather, but they are in the minority. With hardly a flake of snow across most of the continent most people are extolling the virtues of global warming, at least for now.
In truth, the warm weather may have little to do with global warming and it is now starting to show deleterious effects in other areas. While preventing huge snowfalls, the warm weather has wreaked havoc with the animals and plant life, causing many to surge in populations far too early and now a new concern has brought worries of serious problems related to the warm climate. Specifically, climate scientists are worried about the ‘Jumanji effect’ which presumably will mean that board games will come to life and begin infecting our world, and all so we don’t have to shovel our driveways.
“Anticipate the mosquito problems we normally see to be much more intense and begin earlier than usual if the weather continues to be mild. Even the fleas have had a boost so far this winter and many people are complaining about flea problems right now, in the middle of winter,” climate scientist Jody Gangloff-Kaufmann told the Daily Mail. “We will also see other effects, mostly unpredictable, as this Jumanji effect continues through the winter months. Simply put, we don’t know what could happen next.”
In the 1995 film ‘Jumanji’ a boy is trapped in a board game for decades before being released and bringing the contents of the game with him into the real world, which causes chaos.
It’s not clear if any board games have come to life yet or whether or not there is any real scientific evidence for such a magical event occurring, even amidst this nearly magical weather.
“I would doubt that we will be seeing a huge influx of imaginary creatures rising from all over the place because we simply have no precedent for such a thing happening. I mean board games are cardboard and plastic, not portals into other dimensions. To me it sounds like people are letting the warm weather get to their heads and that is causing their imaginations to run wild,” said Scrape TV Weather analyst Graham
Gilliam. “This idea that these creations could break into our world is a little absurd. Yes, we will see unexpected things that could play some small amount of chaos but nothing like what was depicted in that film, at least I doubt that very much.”
The film starred Kirsten Dunst and Robin Williams who are drunk and hairy respectively an thus unavailable for comment.
“That is certainly a scenario that few people would want to have happen. It would be one thing to have snakes and ladders or Monopoly come to life, but board games are more diverse than that and some of the entities in them could cause real chaos,” continued Gilliam. “No one wants those crazy games to come to life and luckily that is extremely unlikely. I am no board game but I would guess that we are safe from such an event and that we should just sit back and enjoy the weather.”
Robin Williams is presumed to be sweating more than usual this winter.
