GABRIELLE GIFFORDS HUSBAND LIKELY TO BE IN BIG TROUBLE WHEN HE RETURNS FROM SPACE
February 4 2011
Cape Canaveral, FL – Travelling into space is, arguably, the greatest accomplishment of mankind. Unlike other advances such as speech or building the pyramids, travel beyond our planet is something totally alien to our progress on the planet. It is not
the result of a natural process or a need for shelter and worship, but rather it is plan, a designed effort that is so far outside the natural world or anything we have evolved to produce. After all, other animals communicate with one another and seek shelter, but none of them build vessels to travel through space.
Space flight is perhaps the greatest tribute to our ingenuity as a species, an expression of our mental and emotional evolution, perhaps the greatest thing we do. Others would argue that simpler things are more important and indeed some of those things, most notably love and marriage, have been driving forces in our advances as a species. As the ultimate expression of cooperation between human beings, love has built and destroyed kingdoms, created art, and driven people mad. Without love we would likely never have gotten to the stage where we could travel to the stars. For astronaut Mark Kelly those two things have fallen into direct conflict, and with his choice to go into space rather than stay by his injured wife, Representative Gabrielle Giffords, he has likely put himself in an unwinnable situation.
“He will be on the shuttle Endeavour when it takes off in April. This was a long and difficult decision to make considering everything that has happened but in talks with his family and with the progress that his wife has made he came to the decision that it was best to take the trip,” said a NASA insider. “It would have been difficult to replace him at this point and so we are pleased that he was able to make this decision to pilot the last voyage of the Endeavour.”
Giffords was shot in the head in January.
“Travelling into space has to be one of the most incredible things a person could do. It’s a fantasy in so many ways that I think most people would give their right arm to get a chance to travel into space but still, this had to be a very difficult decision to make. Still, he’ll probably have a good time despite knowing that he’s going to be in a whole lot of trouble when he gets back,” said Scrape TV Science analyst Dr. Howard Poe. “I remember going out with my brother one time while my wife was napping and we only went to the bar for a little while, but when I got back I was in a whole lot of trouble. I was only gone for a few hours and just across town, I didn’t go to space. Of course we don’t know how in or out of things she really is.”
Giffords has reportedly been making significant progress in recent weeks.
“I mean at least his activities are going to be scrutinized. There are much worse things that a person could get into when your wife is in a coma than going into space but still, I mean you have to be behind your woman and not travel thousands of miles into the stratosphere,” continued Poe. “It’s really not for me to say to be honest, I mean their marriage is their marriage and if they want to lay around or go into space who am I to judge? People have to live their own lives.”
Kelly has reportedly been spending most of his time preparing for the flight. Giffords has been sleeping.
