HUGO CHAVEZ REVEALS THAT CAPITALISM DESTROYED LIFE ON MARS

Caracas, Venezuela – There are many mysteries in the Universe, more mysteries than we will ever uncover in our lifetimes, perhaps more mysteries than we can ever even comprehend. With each new discovery, each new path we investigate, scores of 
new mysteries appear defying even our rudimentary understanding of not just what is in the universe, but how it works on a fundamental level. Not all of those mysteries are exotic, however, with many taking place right in our own celestial neighbourhood.
One of the largest mysteries in our area is what exactly happened to our sibling planet, Mars. Very similar to Earth in a number of ways, the red planet has had little success compared with us, though reams of evidence have shown that at least at one time it was well on its way towards being a viable planet. Ancient riverbeds and the recent discovery of water based ice have shown clearly that Mars has more in common with our planet than we ever could have imagined, yet it does not support life in the same way Earth is capable. Mars is, in many ways, the dark version of Earth, the example of what we could have been. While many theories have been explored, few have given solid answers as to what exactly happened to our neighbour. Now though a new theory has emerged from an unlikely source, Venezuelan President Hugo Chavez who believes the planet was undone by unbridled Capitalist greed, a theory some researchers are seriously considering.
“I have always said, heard, that it would not be strange that there had been civilization on Mars, but maybe capitalism arrived there, imperialism arrived and finished off the planet,” Chavez said in a speech marking World Water Day. “Careful! Here on planet Earth where hundreds of years ago or less there were great forests, now there are deserts. Where there were rivers, there are desert.”
Chavez also linked the rise of Capitalism to declining water supplies but it is his theory on Mars which is getting the most traction.
“For a long time serious research showed that a number of factors may have contributed to the relative death of Mars, including being just outside the ‘Goldilocks 
Zone’, the area where we are just close enough and not too far from the Sun. New information though has shown that life can thrive in even very harsh conditions and may in fact exist in some form on Mars today, leading us to believe that the planet encountered some kind of cataclysm,” said John Orphan of Rutgers University. “One prevailing theory is that the planet was struck by some external force, possibly a massive asteroid or even a comet which upset the rotation of the planet and burned off its atmosphere, killing any and all life that may have been on the planet. Of course it’s not clear if that nascent planet had life like ours or if it would have developed to our current level, but something certainly happened.”
At negative 50 degrees Celsius Mars is only slightly cooler than Earth though would have been warmed significantly with a robust ozone layer and atmosphere allowing for life to thrive.
“Linking that to the rise of capitalism is tenuous at best. The reality is that the most robust space program in the world is managed by the greatest capitalist society. The resources that have been created are exactly the kinds of tools required to stave off a world destroying event like an asteroid collision so that logic falls apart,” continued Orphan, “Of course if some out-of-control corporation created say a super virus or some other cataclysmic device that destroyed the atmosphere and accidentally unleashed that on Martian society, well that would be the argument against capitalism. It’s certainly an interesting theory but one that does require a little more research before we can say definitively and move towards a fully Socialist regime.”
Venezuela currently has no space program.
