LIBRARY OF CONGRESS RECEIVES MAP PROVING THE EARTH IS FLAT
June 22 2011
Washington, D.C. – Popular opinion has often dominated the way people see the world. Through much of our history, popular opinion was all we had. Science, though present through a good deal of prehistory, has only really come into its own in the

last hundred years or so. Previous to that, superstition and the governments determined the way people lived and the way they saw the world, whether it was correct or not.
That still exists today, albeit in lesser forms. The advent of high literacy rates as well as the growing power of science has allowed a better and more accurate picture of the world in which we exist. Things that were once attributed to other worldly forces have now been explained, which in turn has allowed us as human beings to become much more sophisticated. However, some old stories and belief systems have remained and continued to have sway over the ways in which we live. One of the most prominent of such beliefs is one of the oldest, and involves the very ground we walk on. For centuries it was believed that the earth was flat and that any travails to the edge would result in certain death. Scientific analysis eventually showed that the planet was round, and late in the twentieth century pictures of the planet seemingly proved it beyond a doubt. However, a new map presented to the Library of Congress has thrown that readily accepted standard into disarray with details of an entirely flat planet.
“This is a compelling and certainly interesting artifact of an older time, a time when people relied exclusively on what they could see and spent little time on any kind of

analysis. The idea of a flat Earth has long been dismissed, but this new map is certainly compelling,” said a spokesperson for the Library. “Previous Flat Earth models provided little detail in how things would be laid out, but this map has everything clearly defined including political boundaries, albeit a little dated.”
The map is 120 years old but shows all the continents laid out properly.
“The interesting thing about this map is that it shows in a rational way how the world could work in a flat setting. Previously it was assumed that the layout of the continents and the like simply wouldn’t fit on a flat earth, but this map shows that it is indeed possible,” said Scrape TV Science analyst Dr. Howard Poe. “It doesn’t prove the flat earth idea, not by any stretch, but does show that at least some aspects of the theory could be possible. If somehow this map does turn out to be accurate it could forever change the way we think about the world, literally and figuratively. The big question, aside from understanding how planets are formed, gravity works and all that, is what exactly is one the other side of the planet.”
Most scientists have dismissed the map, though admit that they haven’t seen it firsthand.
“I think it’s very unlikely that this map is accurate. Realistically, we do have pictures of the planet and it is round. There is really no disputing that evidence, provided of course we accept pictures and video as evidence. I mean this is a map and a person wouldn’t have produced it for no reason,” continued Poe. “However, it will take a lot of analysis to prove the veracity of the work and inevitably there are going to be a lot of people who just dismiss it outright. However the scientific method requires that we analyze the map and prove or disprove its authenticity. Until that can be done I would recommend that boats be very careful when approaching the edge.”
Thus far, no one has fallen off the new end of the world.
