MASSIVE KILLER COMET JUST NARROWLY MISSES DESTROYING ALL LIFE ON EARTH
October 17 2011
Washington, D.C. – In celestial terms, it was a near miss for comet Elenin. The massive comet, which partially broke up in recent weeks, passed within a few million miles of our planet. Had it impacted our planet it likely would have obliterated much of the life on our planet.
Luckily, the comet did start to break up in August meaning that life on planet Earth is safe, for now, until another comet that scientists didn’t tell us about approaches. It’s not clear why we are only hearing about the imminent destruction now.
“Folks are having trouble finding it, so I think it's probably dead and gone,” said Don Yeomans of the JPL. “Elenin was a second-rate, wimpy little comet that never should have been noted for anything, really. It was not even a bright one.”
It should be noted that it is always easy to say such things once a threat has passed. There is no record of Yeomans making such claims before the comet started to break up.
The remains of the comet will pass near Earth again in about 12,000 years, by which time we will likely have giant space lasers to blow apart the remnants.
“Whether or not this comet would have had the ability to destroy us, we really should have known about it. There had been take and rumours that this thing was
happening, but the government had a responsibility to warn us well in advance that something was coming and they did not do that,” said Scrape TV Apocalypse analyst Seth Morris. “I mean it was only in August that it started to break up, apparently as a result of a solar storm. Those storms are unpredictable at best so there was no way they could have known this was going to happen. It could easily have struck Earth and killed us all and they did not even try to warn us.”
The comet was originally discovered in December of last year. At its maximum size it was 2-3 miles in diameter, far smaller than the asteroid that killed the dinosaurs which itself did not destroy all life on the planet.
Officials have not commented on why a bigger deal wasn’t made of this particular body.
“This particular comet may not have obliterated all life on the planet but it sure would have killed a lot of people, and that is probably why they didn’t tell us. I mean there is little we can do, really, especially if it is on target to hit a major city. It would create panic and cause chaos, much more so than the clean up would cause. It’s it possible that we may never know if a giant comet is headed straight at us, it’s just too dangerous to tell us,” continued Morris. “It may seem irresponsible but this is the way governments think, and unfortunately they are often right, People respond badly to being obliterated by a massive ball of fire and it would have created a lot of panic and chaos, panic that as has been shown would have been totally unneeded. This only proves them correct, though, and so when the next comet comes along they will probably do the same thing, likely killing us all for real.”
A smaller asteroid, which also has no chance of destroying all life on Earth, will pass by on Monday.
