MEXICO MORE OR LESS CONFIRMS END OF THE WORLD IN 2012

Mexico City, Mexico – No specific tale of the end of the world has ever caught fire like the one purportedly professed by the ancient Mayans. That tale, undoubtedly twisted and manipulated over thousands of years, has engaged apocalypse watchers in a way that has never happened before and in a way that will undoubtedly continue to drive intrigue throughout the coming year.
Few actual experts, science folk, believe that anything catastrophic or apocalyptic will happen in 2012 and many even dispute the notion that Mayans themselves ever suggested such a thing, but of course belief can be a powerful weapon and a tool that can facilitate action. Still, ending the world is a challenge even for the most fervent believers.
Now though that they may need not worry about bringing about the end with new evidence emerging that the Mayans may in fact have actually predicted the apocalypse and that despite all the common sense and evidence to the contrary, the world may in fact end in a little over a year.
“While we would not like to jump to conclusions of any sort, there is ample evidence to support the year of 2012 in the Mayan predictions. This tablet clearly shows a second reference to the year 2012 which is fairly strong evidence, though far from confirmation, that the Mayans believed something big was going to happen in that year,” said a spokesperson for Mexico’s archaeology institute.
The tablet he is referring to is called the ‘Comalco Brick’ which is clearly inscribed with markings suggesting the year 2012. Much of the previous speculation as to the end of the world revolved around a single marking on a stone tablet but the second appearance of the number has compelled new study into the date.
“If accurate, it means that the Mayans were certainly referencing this date for some reason and of course the standard speculation is that it was because that is when they predicted the world would end. It’s clear that this tablet does show 2012 but it doesn’t necessarily refer to the end of the planet and everything on it,” said Scrape TV Apocalypse analyst Seth Morris. “It doesn’t necessarily not refer to it either. It could very well mean the end of the world, or at least that is what they were referring to. Of course one could have been inspired by the other and that would negate the power of the prediction.”
Some have speculated that the dates could refer to a symbolic end of the world, say something like the breakup of Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie or Justin Bieber cutting off all his hair, though there is no strong evidence to support those theories either.
“These predictions could very well mean the end of planet Earth, possibly even the end of all existence, or they could mean nothing at all. I mean old books and stone tablets are always predicting things but most of them never come true and there is no reason to suggest that this time it will any different,” continued Morris. “All these dates really do is get our hopes up, get us all excited, and then disappoint, kind of like George Lucas. Who knows, maybe he’ll announce new Star Wars movies next year. That itself could be seen as an apocalyptic event.”
The Star Wars movies will be re-released next year in 3-D, something the Mayans most likely could not have predicted.
