SCIENTISTS CREATE GIANT SUPERSOLDIER ANTS THAT ALREADY BE LOOSE
January 6 2012
Montreal, Canada – There are many nightmare scenarios about the end of the world but, given the fact that we are still here, none of those things have ever come to pass. Eventually the world will end, it’s inevitable, but the question we have, the one we continue to ask, is whether or not we will be the ones who create our own doom.
If such a scenario does suddenly appear, that human beings create a killer plague or launch a nuclear apocalypse that wipes us from the planet, the Earth will likely go on without us. The planet has been through such extinctions before and survived, something it will likely continue to do for many years after we are gone, unless of course we find some way to actually blow up the planet, the unlikeliest of scenarios.
As happened before, the apocalypse that wiped out the dominant creatures, dinosaurs, created the perfect environment for mammals. While rudimentary mammals did exist, the sudden absence of those top-level predators and the increased heat of the planet allowed our kind to evolve and eventually develop human beings. Now, like then, our successors may already be roaming around, and after an experiment in Canada, may be on the way towards taking over the planet as we speak, especially after a colony of genetically manufactured super ants broke free from their confines.
“We uncovered an ancestral development potential to produce a novel supersoldier subcaste that has been retained throughout a hyperdiverse ant genus that evolved 35 to 60 million years ago,” said Dr Rajendhran Rajakumar of McGill University.
The new/old ants have gigantic heads designed to block anthole openings from invaders.
It is believed the ants were eventually bred out because of a change in predatory behaviours, environmental shifts, or possibly because the species was becoming far too powerful to be allowed to continue.
“Sometimes species are wiped out by accident, sometimes they are wiped out because we are careless, sometimes it is just chance, but sometimes they are wiped out for a good reason and they should stay that way,” said Scrape TV Science analyst Dr. Howard Poe. “Sabre tooth cats, for example, were a threat to humans and we wiped them out. Super ants would very obviously be a threat to humans and it was a good thing they were wiped out, but apparently not anymore.”
The researchers did report that the ants did break through their glass confines but all, at least they believe all, were captured and placed in more secure surroundings.
“The real concern here is the way they have been manipulated with specific traits. Those traits will then be passed down to new generations but so too will the modifications. We have kick-started ant evolution again and this time there may be no stopping it,” continued Poe. “We all remember those movies from the 1950’s where giant ants took over the world. That may be a little silly, but I’m sure the dinosaurs didn’t pay much heed to the little rodents running around their feet and look what happened there. Hopefully they got all the ants and hopefully they are secure this time, otherwise...”
Researchers swear up and down they got every single ant that escaped. Every one, they swear.
