UFO SIGHTINGS SPIKE THROUGH AUGUST
September 18 2011
Greeley, CO – In the dog days of summer lots of strange things tend to happen. A combination of heat, time off, and a lot of bubbly often results in people getting into trouble, but no one has ever suggested that there was something about the month itself that caused that weirdness, until now at least.
According to The Mutual UFO Network (MUFON), sightings of strange craft in the skies spiked in the month of August, more than doubling the monthly average across the nation. While at first glance the increase in sightings could be considered a result of the other activities of the month, namely the heat and the booze, but the spike is out of sorts with previous years as well, suggesting that something may very well be afoot with our interstellar visitors, something that likely will not be good.
“It's pretty exciting. When you average 500 a month [nationwide] and go to 1,013 in one month, that's an interesting spike in sighting reports,” said Clifford Clift, the international director of MUFON. “I’m not sure what to make of this data, it could be computer error or inaccurate reporting. It could also be that we are in the midst of a UFO flap which happens on occasion. Hopefully that’s all it is.”
Other possibilities are the increase in alien themed movies inspiring the imagination or an interstellar military force massing on the border getting ready to attack.
“It’s likely that the media and movies that are coming out, like 'Apollo 18' and 'Paul,' are piquing people's interest in UFOs,” continued Clift. “The other possibilities, like an invasion, are a little out there and not something that seems reasonable.”
While those two movies were released this year, they were poorly attended and may not have had an impact on the number of sightings. In the alternative scenario, a possible invasion, we are likely in a great deal of trouble.
“The biggest problem with alien attack movies is that people just assume aliens will be nasty. True, there are nice alien movies but those are rare and are not the way people think of an alien invasion. People assume doom, and that might be exactly what comes,” said Scrape TV Science analyst Dr. Howard Poe. “If we saw alien crafts descending on all our major cities our first reaction would be to attack, and attack hard and the aliens would be forced to respond which would create exactly the think we fear the most, ironically. If these numbers hold into this month, that is something we are going to have to deal with.”
It’s not yet clear how many sightings have been made in September.
“If these numbers remain stable, or if they increase, we have to start considering the possibility. There were a lot of alien invasion movies this year and it is possible, unlikely perhaps, that these two things are connected. Perhaps a rogue element in the alien hierarchy infiltrated Earthlings and prompted them to make these movies, to push them into war. That is something we have to consider,” continued Poe. “This could all be some long plan to push us to war, and that will likely result in our elimination. It’s likely that if they decided to make this move they have prepared in other ways as well, and that isn’t good for us.”
A number of other alien invasion movies are currently in development.
