ARENAS, CRITTENDON OUT FOR SEASON; WILL MISS BRING YOUR GUN TO WORK DAY

January 30 2010

New York, NY – The hammer has finally come down for Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton after their much publicized gun duel in the locker room last month. Both players have been suspended for the remainder of the season, getting off light in the gilbert arenas
eyes of many people. This isn’t the end of trouble for the pair though as Arenas faces sentencing on felony gun charges and now both players will miss the annual bring-your-gun to work day, which this year will be held just after the All-Star game.

Though the eventual legal and professional fates of the two players, one a an underperforming highly paid all star, the other a backup player, is yet to be determined there’s little doubt that their presence will be missed at the annual event which has routinely been one of the most anticipated events for players across the league. With both their freedom and their future careers now in the balance it’s widely believed that at least Arenas, who routinely put on the best display in the Wizards locker room, may never again step into an NBA arena packing heat, at least as a player leading many to wonder if the tradition itself might slowly be coming to an end.gilbert arenas

“When I started playing with Gilbert he taught me a lot. I mean he is a great player and all that and there were all kinds of moves and things on the court that I learned from hi, but it was the locker room stuff that really made an impact on me,” said a Wizards player who preferred to remain anonymous. “The way he held the gun, the way he handled it, it was like nothing I had ever seen in real life. Honestly, the gun days were my favourite day playing in the league. Gilbert just always seemed so on those days, so in his element and things are going to be so different without him. I just don’t see how things could be the same without him there.”

Arenas reportedly paid out of his own pocket for wall repairs from last year’s bring your gun day and it isn’t clear who will take up the slack this time around.firing machine gun

“It was the 1992 season when the league finally formalized the day, set aside a specific day for all the players. There was a lot of controversy and the Player’s Union vehemently protested the notion that guns would only be allowed on specific days, but ultimately they worked out an agreement that everyone was more or less happy with,” said Scrape TV Sports analyst Mark Marvins. “I mean there were guns of all types coming into locker rooms but they wanted to limit how they were dealt with. It was little more difficult getting them off the court, but it was a priority for the league to have them out of the locker room where accidents are much more prone to happen.”

Certain teams, such as the Lakers, have been allowing players to bring guns to the court on select other days though such exceptions must be approved through league headquarters.handgun

“Many people don’t realize this but guns are standard at practice. That is one area the two parties couldn’t come to an agreement on but weapons in the locker room, outside these specific days, are a strict no-no and that won’t change anytime soon,” continued Marvins. “It’s understandable that a lot of Wizards players are a little down. Arenas is a big gun fanatic so he obviously knows his weapons. Unfortunately for them there’s a great likelihood that he won’t be back even for next year’s festivities which means they are just going to have to celebrate without him.”

Commissioner David Stern suspended the celebrations at the NBA home offices for this season.
