BUCCANEERS COACH READY TO FIRE HIMSELF

November 29 2009

Tampa Bay, FL – There are many storied franchises in the history of the NFL. The Chicago Bears, The Green Bay Packers, The New York Giants, The Dallas Cowboys, The Pittsburgh Steelers are just a handful of the most respected and beloved old tampa bay buccaneers logo
franchises in the league, winning almost half of all Super Bowls ever played between them. Those teams too, with the exception of the Cowboys, are founding franchises in the league, which only adds to their level of respect and affection by fans of the game.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers are a different story. Until last season the Bucs, an expansion team in 1976, were the only franchise to go winless through a full season. For the Lions that winless season was an anomaly, but for the Bucs, for many years, a repeat was largely expected with fourteen straight losing seasons. Things eventually changed for the Bucs though and starting in 1997 under head coach Tony Dungy, the team started to win. That success eventually led to a Super Bowl win in 2002, something few would ever have predicted for the once lowly franchise. Unfortunately for Tampa Bay fans those dark times appear to have returned and with only one win thus far into the season everyone’s head is on the block, including new head coach Raheem Morris who is willing to fire himself if it comes down to it.raheem morris

“The only person who's going to suffer the consequences is me. So you might as well put yourself in the fire, take it right between the eyes and do the best you can,” said Morris after demoting Defensive coordinator Jim Bates. “We are here to win. The people of Tampa expect wins and they deserve them and I will do whatever I can to put W’s on the board.  Jim was very gracious and classy when I asked him to step down I think because he understands what I’m trying to do. He also understands that in a season like this everyone has to perform or answer. That includes me and if it comes down to it I’m totally willing to fire myself. Whatever it takes to win.”raheem morris

Morris was promoted to head coach before the start of the current season after being promoted to defensive coordinator just a few months earlier, a position he now enjoys after the demotion of Bates.

“It’s very rare that a head coach, a leader, will put himself on the line like that. It’s very rare that an employee of any kind is willing to not only put his job on the line like that but to actually threaten himself with termination if he can’t perform properly,” said Scrape TV Sports analyst Mark Marvins. “Most people do whatever they can to keep their jobs especially in this economy but apparently Morris is just a different kind of person. Perhaps he’s independently wealthy which would allow him to leave and explain his obvious eccentricity.”

Morris apparently also has a habit of conversing with himself and getting into arguments over empty headsets.1976 tampa bay buccaneers

“There are some people that have speculated that Morris may be suffering from kind of mental ailment but this far there’s little clear evidence of that. The NFL has been under a lot of pressure to do something about the head injuries incurred by players but there has been nothing to suggest that the same should be done for coaches,” continued Marvins. “This threat could just be that. He could be showing that he’s willing to put himself on the line and thus inspire his people. He could also be doing it to show his earnest effort and thereby gain himself some brownie points. He could also be insane which will at least be better than the Sam Wyche era in Tampa Bay.”
