BRAZILIAN SOCCER PLAYERS SEEKING PLASTIC SURGERY AFTER WORLD CUP OUSTER
July 3 2010
Johannesburg, South Africa – Soccer is without a doubt the most popular sport in the world. Many nations claim to be powers in the sport and indeed countries such as England, Italy, Germany, Argentina, and France have long dominated international
competition. Still soccer is global sport as beloved by the people in the slums of Nairobi as those in the palaces of Paris. Still some nations have a greater claim to dominance and strength in the sport than others and at the top of that heap one country stands above all others, Brazil which sports the best international record in history.
With more World Cup and FIFA championships than any other nation, Brazil has always sported the best teams in the sport. With incredible depth and a fan base that lives and dies by their success the sport isn’t just a national passion, it is for all intents and purposes the heart of the nation itself, it’s reason for being. That passion was very much put to the test on Friday when the team faced off against The Netherlands in the quarter finals of the World Cup, a match that resulted in a 2-1 victory for the Dutch and a shameful trip home for the Brazilians. However,
according to reports not all those players will make it home, or at least not in their original form as many have opted for defection or plastic surgery following the loss.
“I know for sure that Felipe Melo was nowhere the airport when the team arrived. He was almost the hero but he ended up being the goat and he is quite correctly staying away from home for the time being. I wouldn’t be surprised if he never sets foot in the country again,” said a FIFA insider. “We have no policy regarding these kinds of things. Once the players exit the match they are under the jurisdiction of their national team. If the Brazilian team sees fit to release them to other pursuits that is their prerogative.”
Melo scored the first goal of the game but also notched an own goal to tie the match. The Dutch later scored the go ahead goal and advanced to the next round.
“Defections have occurred in the past, typically with Italian players, but we are seeing
a significant number of Brazilian players staying in Africa or boarding planes destined for other locations. It’s not unheard of but the numbers we are seeing this time around is quite significant,” continued the insider. “I mean Brazil would be the place to go to hide and change your identity but obviously things are a little complicated this time around. Hopefully they don’t do anything drastic, it is just a game after all and they aren’t going back to North Korea. Those guys have already completely disappeared, I imagine that in four years that team will be totally different.”
Back home Brazilian officials have publicly stated that they will not be taking action to protect the families of the players despite numerous threats.
“We know the Brazilian people take this game very seriously and they frankly had the best team in the field but the Netherlands are no
pushovers. They have a solid line-up and the loss was really nothing to be ashamed of. Of course the players will have to do what they have to do to protect themselves and their families but people need to realize that this is just a games after all,” continued the insider. “WE do hope that they will have enough players left for 2014. Brazil has been in every World Cup and it would be a shame to see them exit in such an ignominious way.”
Brazil will host the next World Cup making them automatic qualifiers though that is contingent on being able to field 11 players.
