FACING RAPE ACCUSATIONS, BEN ROETHLISBERGER LEAVES TOWN FOR GREENER PASTURES
March 7 2010
Pittsburgh, PA – Being at the top of your game can sometimes be as difficult as being at the bottom. Kings, Presidents, rock stars and matinee icons will all attest to the challenges faced with being at the top. The constant struggle to remain at those
heights, the persistent attacks from critics and pretenders to the throne, and the pressure of being so in demand all contribute to the challenges of being the best. While few at the bottom would ever consider not trading places, that doesn’t make the lives of the kings any less difficult.
For a time, Ben Roethlisberger was no doubt at the top. Being the quarterback of any professional football time would be high enough for most people, but being the quarterback of one of the most successful, popular and well respected franchise in the league is something else entirely. Add two Super Bowl rings to that and you have someone who seems destined for legend. While Roethlisberger’s play hasn’t, and likely will never, place him amongst the greatest QB’s to play the game, his winning ways give him a cache that few others ever enjoy. Being a young man, Roethlisberger has of course used his celebrity to gain certain perks unique to his position, perks which have earned him a whole lot of
attention and a handful of rape charges. Now, with one more in the bag, Roethlisberger is leaving familiar territory in search of fresh opportunities.
“At this point Ben is used to criticism. He has been in the spotlight for a number of years and has endured controversy after controversy. Whether it’s losing or wiping out on his bike, Ben has gained thick skin in recent years. With these rape charges, well it’s just part of the game and he’ll take his knocks just like he always has,” said a Steelers insider. “From what I’ve heard he’s left Georgia where the latest accusation incident happened and has moved on to other places. I’m not going to say where he’s gone but he’s looking for a place where no one is currently accusing him of rape.”
Outside the latest accusation, Roethlisberger was accused in 2009 of assaulting a woman in Lake Tahoe, charges which he is still fighting.
“Roethlisberger is never going to be considered the greatest quarterback to the play the game. He is very much like one of his predecessors, Terry Bradshaw, who technically wasn’t a great passer but somehow kept winning. Like Roethlisberger he had a great team around him, but something in him allowed him to lead, and lead to victory,” said Scrape TV Sports analyst Mark Marvins. “As for these rape allegations go, it’s just part of the game. Famous people are accused of rape all the time, for some it’s like a daily occurrence and it’s just his time now. We will have to see whether or not it affects his professional behaviour, but there’s little doubt that it will affect his personal life. Now there are two states that his opportunities have dried up in.”
Generally speaking, women prefer spending time with men who aren’t likely to rape them.
“There are only so many states in the union and a good chunk of them are pretty ugly so he is going to become very limited. He only has a couple of months off so travelling outside the country on a regular basis is very difficult, even Canada where a rape is far more acceptable. Eventually this is going to come back and bite him in the butt,” continued Marvins. “At the very least he’s keeping the accusations out of Pennsylvania. Doing that in a place where he needs to be in order to work would be a very bad idea, though I guess it’s pretty easy considering the general profile of the women in that state. Over in the Philadelphia are things aren’t so bad, but in Pittsburgh, ugh, just stay away.”
Roethlisberger has reportedly been seen in Oregon, another less attractive state but one to which few people pay any attention.
