JOE PATERNO DIES TO ESCAPE ANY MORE SEX ABUSE QUESTIONS

University Park, PA – If there was ever anything Joe Paterno was good at, beyond a doubt, it was winning. His success at Penn State was unparalleled even by very high standards. He built one of the great University football programs from literally nothing and put his school on the map, not only as a football power but as an institution. Joe Paterno touched the lives of thousands of people, won more games than anyone else in college history, and became the rarest of things, a living legend.
Until a few months ago that was the Joe Paterno that everyone knew and loved, and if it had been left at that he would have passed peacefully, knowing that his contributions had been writ large. Unfortunately things weren’t left at that and Paterno lost his job and much of his reputation as details of his involvement in the ongoing child sex abuse scandal became clear. Now, with that still hanging over his head, Joe Paterno has passed away, never having the chance to clear his name.
Dead at 85-years old, Paterno’s final months were certainly not what he imagined or, could be argued, given his football legacy. Wrapped up in the actions by his former coach, Paterno has been a pariah in his last days on Earth, something that was never resolved before his death, leaving him on his death bed knowing that he enabled child sex abuse and that people didn’t like him for it, though at least he won’t have to answer any more questions about the issue.
“He died as he lived. He fought hard until the end, stayed positive, thought only of others and constantly reminded everyone of how blessed his life had been. His ambitions were far reaching, but he never believed he had to leave this Happy Valley to achieve them. He was a man devoted to his family, his university, his players and his community,” said the family in a statement.
Paterno was diagnosed with lung cancer shortly after the scandal broke late last year. He only spoke out once, last week, about the sex abuse situation and now will never speak again.
It’s not clear if police were also considering charges against Paterno for his involvement in the case, but if so those charges will likely be dropped now.
“It’s a shame really that he had to go to his death bed with all this hanging over his head. The one consolation we have is that he had a remarkable ability to ignore the reality of the world around him and that probably served him well in his final days. I wouldn’t be surprised if he thought he was on the sidelines when he died rather than in a hospital room hated by most of the country,” said Scrape TV Sports analyst Mark Marvins. “It’s a shame it went this way, but at least it serves as a lesson for all future football coaches to go to police if someone is abusing children. A good lesson learned indeed.”
News of Paterno’s decline started to circulate yesterday but the family quickly covered up the news.
“I’m sure Jerry Sandusky is pretty happy today. I mean he did lose a benefactor, a friend, and an enabler but he also lost a possible witness. Now his case has taken a turn for the better, slightly better perhaps, but still better,” continued Marvins. “Now he just has to worry about all those kids he abused. If they somehow died or say went to Venezuela he’d be all set and could get back to his life as normal, something Joe Paterno was never able to do unfortunately. A very sad end indeed.”
Sandusky reportedly took a long, hot shower before heading off to see the Paterno family.
