JOE PATERNO UNABLE TO COVER UP BROKEN HIP
December 12 2011
University Park, PA – Just a month or so ago everything was going so swimmingly for Joe Paterno. He was still the revered head coach of one of the elite football programs in the country, his health was just for a guy in his eighties, and no one in the world hated him. And then those old skeletons started to appear from out of the closet and things have just started to get worse and worse.
Only days after stepping down as head coach in the face of the ongoing sex abuse scandal, it was announced that Paterno had lung cancer. Now it appears that the 84-year old coach has fallen and broken his pelvis, something which he apparently tried to hide from friends and family before it was finally uncovered.
According to reports, Paterno will recover from the injury but his reputation as a cancer free, healthy hip man will likely be ruined forever.
“Joe is fine, well he’s not fine. I mean he’s got cancer and a broken hip and he lost his job and reputation and he helped facilitate all those young boys being molested and raped, but other than that he’s fine. It’s been a hard few weeks but he’s doing okay despite it all,” said a Paterno insider. “Obviously this isn’t exactly what he wanted out of this season but you win some and you lose some. Joe has always been a winner, but not because he’s always won, because he’s always understood that the hard times make you better and that’s exactly the attitude he’s taking to this whole situation.”
Jerry Sandusky, the man at the centre of the controversy, has not been able to find relief for his hard times of late, coming in and out of jail.
The pair has apparently not spoken since the scandal broke even with Paterno in is particularly vulnerable state.
“In some ways you really do have to feel sorry for Paterno. He made a mistake, well a lot of mistakes, but he never directly hurt a child. I mean he covered it up and allowed an abuser to continue to hurt kids, but he didn’t actually do it himself and he seems to have suffered the most. I mean not as much as the kids, but still,” said Scrape TV Sports analyst Mark Marvins. “I mean Sandusky didn’t have the same type of reputation to lose and he doesn’t have cancer or a broken hip which really isn’t fair. He gained all the benefits from abusing children and the people who helped him get all the pain. Well, I guess that is kind of the way it works. Yeah, guess that’s the deal usually.”
No charges have been laid against Paterno. Lots and lots of charges have been laid against Sandusky, so much so that he hardly has the time to abuse children anymore.
“Paterno does seem to have gotten the worst of this whole deal, at least of the adults. The kids are certainly worse off but their thing is over. They’ve healed kid of. Things just seem to keep getting worse for Paterno and he really doesn’t deserve that. Well he kind of does but not really,” continued Marvins. “It’s hard because he’s not a good guy but he’s not fully a bad guy. I mean cancer and broken bones, if Sandusky got them, fine, but Paterno...it’s a little different. Hopefully things turn around for him soon, or if they do get worse he can keep it quiet this time.”
Paterno has also developed a mild case of gout in his foot, something he was able to keep quiet until just now.
