LONDON MAY STEAL RIO CHRIST STATUE AS PART OF ELABORATE OLYMPIC GAMES PRANK

London, U.K. –There are a few cities in the world that people flock to, places that draw interest and travellers from all over the globe. Usually, that interest is a result of the idea of the place rather than the place itself. Many of them do have great history and wonderful sights, but often they are just embellishments to the idea of the place.
London is certainly one of those places, in fact it is probably in top five of the most desirable cities in the world. People flock to London by the millions every year and don’t really need an excuse, but this summer they will certainly have one if they needed it, the Olympic Summer Games being held in that city.
As if the long history of the city, the international style, the global influence, and the Games themselves weren’t already enough of a draw the city is apparently planning on a pretty spectacular event to draw even more interest to their little city. That event will be the purloining, the theft, of the massive Christ of the Redeemer statue that overlooks Rio and placing it in London in one of what is likely to be many pranks conducted by the various Olympic committees.
“The structure that has been selected is iconic in nature and synonymous with Rio. The intention is for a planning application to be submitted in February,” said the London Olympic Committee in a statement, possibly running the surprise and giving an upper hand to Rio authorities.
Rio will host the 2016 Olympics and have already joked about stealing London Bridge for that event, likely the root cause of the Christ issue.
It’s believed that the statue will be placed on Primrose Hill in the heart of London proper.
“This would be something very big indeed. Literally very big. That statue is huge and it will be major project to not only remove it from the hill but also to transport across the ocean. I would expect that regardless of what they say, they would not be able to move it without letting on that it was happening,” said Scrape TV Sports analyst Mark Marvins. “There would be a lot of people involved in moving something like that and I doubt that it ever could be done without raising some suspicion. It could be that the threat itself is the gag.”
The Christ of the Redeemer statue stands nearly forty metres tall and is at the peak of the 700-metre tall Corcovado mountain, a formidable task for a prank indeed.
“It would certainly be a major coup I they could pull something like this off but it would be a huge logistical challenge and for very little reward I think. I mean they will eventually have to return it after all and the money and time that would go into it, well, that would be a big loss. Funny sure, but a net loss. Though this is the Olympics so they might as well waste more money,” continued Marvins. “Plus the Olympics are only a few months away. Putting something like that into play this quickly would be a challenge even for the British but I guess we will see. It would certainly be quite the sight.”
Brazilian officials responded by threatening to steal the Millennium Wheel which most Londoners are more than willing to give away.
