NBA SEASON TO START CHRISTMAS DAY OR SOMETHING
November 26 2011
New York, NY – The major players in the ongoing NBA labour strife, the players, owners, and league, have struck a tentative deal that will allow the season to go forward, with league officials hoping for a Christmas Day start to the delayed season.
While still subject to approval, the deal is believed likely to go through, allowing the league to play a shortened season. Or it could falter, though many experts believe that unlikely given the enthusiasm on both sides to actually get a deal going that will allow players to come back from Europe, Asia, and the golf links.
The specifics of the deal have not been made public but officials are confident that they will ultimately meet with approval from all sides, so confident in fact that they have actually started to draw up a schedule for the teams.
“We've reached a tentative understanding that is subject to a variety of approvals and very complex machination But we're optimistic that will all come to pass and that the NBA season will begin on December 25, Christmas Day, with a triple-header. We're very pleased that we've come this far. There's still a lot of work to be done in a lot of places, with a lot of committees and player groups and the like. But we're optimistic that it will hold and we'll have ourselves an NBA season,” said Commissioner David Stern.
The deal still needs to be presented to the league Board of Governors before it can be considered official.
The Board has been hesitant to approve any deals recently, mostly because the members have been bored with the majority of games being played.
“The deal is certainly a good thing for a lot of people, the fans, the players, and all the support workers, if it actually goes through. That’s the real concern, that the deal actually goes through. It probably will but you never know. I mean this is NBA and the final two minutes always takes a long time, even if the game has already been decided,” said Scrape TV Sports analyst Mark Marvins. “Hopefully for everyone that really cares it will pass, but we will have to wait and see. The tension is almost palpable, almost. Like this close to being palpable.”
League officials will likely draw out the tension even further after the Board makes its decision, possibly into early next week or later.
“I’m sure many people will be happy that the league is back on a playing basis, well many will think they are happy but then when the games start they will be less so. Kind of the way it goes. Hopefully they won’t be too disappointed once the game actually start up again,” continued Marvins. “That’s the real concern, or maybe it isn’t. I don’t know. It’s hard to tell anymore with the NBA. I hope they do have things worked out, or not, I don’t know anymore, Football’s still on right?”
Football is indeed still on.
