NFL CONSIDERING PROPOSAL TO BREAK UP THE NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS

December 19 2010

New York, NY – Not too long ago, really a decade or so ago, the New England Patriots were one of the perpetual jokes of the NFL. The team had had some wins in the past, but until 2001 real success had been elusive. With stable mates such as the old patriots logo
Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the Minnesota Vikings, and the Buffalo Bills, the Patriots could never maintain any kind of head of steam, could never string more than a few wins together and as a result often only had success because other teams were doing poorly.

That changed in 2001, dramatically. A product of hard work, football smarts, and a lot of good fortune forever changed the fortunes of the franchise taking it from an also ran to one of the premiere teams in the league. With three Super Bowl wins, a nearly perfect season, and record attendance and revenues the Patriots have become the model for NFL franchises, all but eliminating the stain of four decades of futility and becoming a role model for all troubled teams. However, that success hasn’t come with a cost and now many in the league are concerned that with yet another success season already under the belt if the team isn’t becoming too successful, prompting them and the league to explore the possibility of breaking up the team to increase competition.tom brady patriots

“It has become clear over the last few years, and very apparent this season, that the Patriots have an unfair advantage over the rest of the teams in the league. Few franchises in this league have been able to maintain this level of success over such a long period of time which gives them far too much power,” said a NFL insider. “This is not borne out of jealousy or anger, but rather the notion of fair play. The team’s success has led to record revenues, which in turn has led to even more success while other franchises have struggled in smaller markets to even field a team. This has created a major disparity amongst teams in the league.”

Thought to be the most active complainants are the Kansas City Chiefs, the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the Cincinnati Bengals.

“The Patriots have consumed so much of the air in the league in terms of television bill belichick super bowl
coverage and popular appeal and that has reduced the ability of other teams in the league to mount successful campaigns. What we would like is for the league to look at a redistribution of talent and assets to other teams in the league,” continued the insider. “This is not unlike a corporation which has come to dominate a particular field. Those companies need to be broken up for the good of the consumer and the good of the industry as a whole. Much like other dominant corporations the Patriots have become an oppressive force in the league that restricts competition and hurts consumers and they must be broken up for the good of everyone.”

The Patriots have the second highest winning percentage in the league for the 2000s up until this season. The collapse of the Indianapolis Colts makes it likely they will take the crown this year.tom brady

“I think it’s very unlikely that we will see any kind of action by the NFL to break up the Patriots. For one, this isn’t like a regular business, it is a division within a larger entity. Two, the league needs stars and whether they are loved or hated, the Pats are a draw and that is essential for the league,” said Scrape TV Sports analyst Mark Marvins.”That said, I totally understand the sentiment. If I lived in North Florida or Ohio I would want some of what they’ve got in Boston, but that doesn’t mean there needs to be league interference. After all it’s not the Patriots fault that your team sucks.”

Representatives for the Seattle Seahawks have spoken out publicly on the issue but league officials are apparently unsure if the team is still a member of the NFL.
