NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS TO ALLOW EVERYONE TO WIN NEXT YEAR

January 18 2011

Boston, MA – Like in any sport, eventually one or two teams in the NFL were bound to become dominant franchises. Some of those teams, like the Green Bay Packers or the Pittsburgh Steelers, are venerated and revered franchises who through good minnesota vikings brett favre
management and strong fan bases have had more good years than bad. Some franchises, like the Buffalo Bills and Minnesota Vikings have had some good years, but more bad than good. Still, on any given Sunday anyone can win in the NFL, and for the better part of a decade no one has won more than the New England Patriots.

A one-time also ran, the rise of the Patriots to the most dominant team in the league has been as surprising as it has been frustrating, particularly for other teams in the league. As the big, bad monster of the AFC, Gillette Stadium has been very much a modern day Coliseum, staining the turf with the blood of rival teams since the beginning of the century. With three Super Bowl wins and division championships in almost all that time, the Patriots have been nearly unstoppable, something they appeared to be this year until losing to the New York Jets on Sunday. While many football fans were certainly shocked at that loss, it appears to be less surprising than first believed with a change in philosophy that will allow far more wins in the coming years.old new england patriots logo

“You can’t come out and say this but the reality is the entire team, on field and off, is sick of winning. It’s not a challenge anymore. You wake up every game day, expect to win, and do and that is just boring believe it or not. That is why they changed things,” said an NFL insider. “This isn’t pressure from the league, this is internal. They are going to field inferior teams going forward and put far more people on injured reserve. They are just sick of all this pressure to win and want people to expect them to lose, that makes those rare wins all the more potent.”

The Cleveland Browns have long employed the technique of losing more than winning.tom brady patriots super bowl

“It’s always win, win, win but sometimes things need to change. The paradigm doesn’t always work the same way and now they have completely changed tacts. Don’t worry, the team will always be on the field and the tickets prices will stay the same, but the on-field product is going to be totally different from people are used to, and that’s a good thing,” continued the insider. “This loss to the Jets was just the first phase of a multi-pronged attack on the record books which will put the team amongst some of the legends of the game like the Buccaneers and the Bills. This is the beginning of a bold new era in New England and in the NFL as a whole.”bill belichick

Privately the Patriots are expecting as few as three wins next season.

“I don’t think anyone could have looked at the performance the other day and believed that the team was doing that on purpose. I mean, really. They sucked on all aspects, on both sides of the ball when just two weeks before they had been so dominant. That had to be on purpose because what else could it be?” said Scrape TV Sports analyst Mark Marvins. “The Pats have been a really great story in the league for a long time and that isn’t going to change anytime soon. Trust me, once the team starts losing the only talk in town will be the team. No one likes a winner.”

Bill Belichick, the head coach of the team, is apparently the architect of the new philosophy.
