OUTRAGE OVER CANADIAN BASEBALL TEAM SHOWS JACK THE RIPPER JOKES STILL TOO SOON

November 20 2011

London, Canada – Before Jeffrey Dahmer, before Ted Bundy, before Charles Manson there was Jack. Now more legend than criminal, Jack the Ripper was really the first modern serial killer, setting the mold for the monsters of the modern age. The fact that Jack himself was never found has only amplified the legend, putting him alongside all the great monsters of history.jack the ripper

Still, the Ripper did kill real people. Unlike other mythical creations alongside which he is placed, Jack, whoever he was, killed real people and thus, his crimes are still a real criminal case even after all this time.

While many theories have been presented as to his real personality, it is likely that the real Jack the Ripper will never be uncovered and, owing to the long time since his last killing, even if he is revealed will never imprisoned. That open wound is still very much a touchy subject for many people who really, really don’t like the logo for a Canadian baseball team which emulates the killer, feeling that 120 years is still too soon.

“We knew it could be taken in different ways. Everybody has to be a little less sensitive and let our storyline play out,” said team owner David Martin.london rippers

The team, titled the ‘London Rippers’, has a logo which depicts a shady figure with a top hat and baseball.

According to team lore, the character is a frustrated hockey player who has turned to baseball but many in the small Canadian city, particularly women’s rights advocates, feel that the logo goes just a little too far.

“This is an outrage, it is totally despicable. It’s clear that this logo and the team name are designed to evoke Jack the Ripper no matter what the owner says. This was done to bring attention to the team and was done with total insensitivity to the fact that this person killed, butchered, women,” said Michelle Wagner, a local women’s rights jack the ripper toy
advocate. “To exploit the deaths of these women, to give credence to this killer, in order to create a profit is totally absurd and disgusting. We will be out in force when this team takes to the field to show them that this type of thing is unacceptable.”

It is not believed that the Ripper could possibly profit from the team in anyway, owing to his presumed death and the inability of anyone to find him.

Police at Scotland Yard in England have not responded to the controversy. The case still stands as one of the few unsolved murders in their history.

A hockey team in nearby Sarnia which drew inspiration from Vlad the Impaler was disbanded after repeated controversy  and multiple losing seasons.
