RAIDERS TO GET THEIR CHANCE AT SUPER BOWL GLORY WITH DEATH OF AL DAVIS

October 8 2011

Oakland, CA – As controversial as he has been, as argumentative and combative as he had been, there is no debate whatsoever that the modern NFL would not exist without Al Davis. Now Davis is gone, dead at 82, leaving behind both that controversial image and a legacy of passion for the game.al davis young

Davis was always an outlaw. His work in forming and running the AFL, itself an outlaw league, was product of that rebelliousness, an attitude that eventually trickled down to his team. During their peak, the Raiders were the bad boys of football through and through, just like their boss. Like him as well, they have also declined in the last few year, falling from those heights to one of the more miserable teams in the league.

Now with Davis out of the way it’s not clear what exactly will happen to the team, but some are already predicting a rebirth particularly now that the NFL will let them have a fair chance with the thorn in their side removed.

“Al Davis's passion for football and his influence on the game were extraordinary. He defined the Raiders and contributed to pro football at every level.  The respect he commanded was evident in the way that people listened carefully every time he al davis old
spoke.  He is a true legend of the game whose impact and legacy will forever be part of the NFL,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell, followed by an audible sigh of relief.

Davis was involved in at least half a dozen lawsuits against the league, down from his average. That slip was apparently due in part to his declining health.

Sportscaster Al Michaels, who predicted a Super Bowl victory if Davis died, was not in the Oakland area or anywhere near Davis at the time of his death.

“Anyone who debates the contribution that Davis made to the league and the sport of football as a whole is either a fool or just ignorant. Davis is perhaps more responsible for the modern game than any other person. He certainly didn’t do it by himself but he did more than any other single person,” said Scrape TV Sports analyst Mark Marvins. “That doesn’t mean he was loved. Respected, yes, but certainly not loved. I’m sure that more than a few people in the league offices are probably okay with him having passed on, at least secretly. Now they will hopefully give the team the okay to pursue victories again and stop getting in their way.”al davis raiders

The Raiders have had one of the worst records in the league over the last few years but have improved this season.  It’s not yet clear how many games the league will allow them to win this year.

“With Davis out of the way the team will likely flourish. The kind of zest and flourish that energized them for so many years had really gone sour over the last few years and caused more problems than it solved. I doubt we will see a Super Bowl victory anytime soon but at least they have a chance now,” continued Marvins. “It will also make the people at the league offices a little relieved. I’m sure they’ve known about his poor health for awhile but he just kept on hanging on. Hopefully he doesn’t come back to haunt them, or the team, because if anyone were going to do that it would be Davis.”

Davis leaves behind mostly bitterness and anger.
