RAY LEWIS PLANNING TO COMMIT CRIMES IF NFL LOCKOUT CONTINUES
May 26 2011
Baltimore, MD – There is little debate over which sport is most beloved by people in the United States. While there is certainly great affection for baseball, and pockets of great passion for both basketball and hockey, it is football which has taken over as
the predominant sport across the country. Filling stadiums with 80,000 people and generating record television viewership, football, particularly the NFL, is the life blood of many people in the country, and now many are faced with the real possibility of having nowhere to place that passion come September.
With the labour dispute between the Players Association and the team owners still without resolution, there is a very real possibility that there will be no NFL games come this fall. Even now, when players should be in mini-camps they are spending their time in boardrooms and on golf courses. With billions of dollars at stake all sides, which includes the league and television networks, are eager to affect a resolution, but with helmet-free heads continuing to butt over financial details, the likelihood of a solution seems more and more remote. Perhaps though, the greatest concern has to be the fan base. Traditionally, strikes do not go over well with fans with many abandoning the sport and never returning. While that possibility certainly will not sink the NFL, there is perhaps a greater concern that many bored fans will turn to illicit and illegal activities, and at least one player, future Hall-of-Famer Ray Lewis, will be right there with them.
“We really gotta remove pride, seriously. There’s no other reason the issue’s going on. Do this research. If we don’t have a season, watch how much evil, which we call it crime, watch how much crime picks up when you take away our game,” Lewis told ESPN. “There's too many people that live through us, people live through us. Yeah, walk in the streets, the way I walk the streets, and I'm not talking about the people you see all the time.”
Lewis himself was arrested on murder charges in 2001. The charges were later dropped.
“There is this notion that going to football games, or watching them on TV, releases a lot of aggression that would otherwise be unleashed in horrible ways on society. That without that pressure valve, society would break down and any sense of law and order, and morality, would vanish in a heartbeat. That’s unlikely of course, no matter how much people do love their football,” said Scrape TV Psychology analyst Dr. Sarah Welp. “The bonds of society tend to be a lot stronger than that. People are, for the most part, good in their hearts. They can certainly benefit from having avenues to blow off steam but not having those things doesn’t mean they will suddenly lose their minds and destroy everything around them at least not the majority of people.”
Thus far there have been no acts of violence is respect to the lockout situation, though training camp is not due to start yet.
“There will certainly be individuals who would be otherwise preoccupied with watching the game, or playing in it, who now have free time to cause problems but for the most part that will be limited and likely confined to people who would already be prone to being criminals in the first place,” continued Welp. “As far as Lewis goes, well he is a violent player and has a history of personal issues and so he may be a threat. I sincerely doubt that his threat of violence will prompt any kind of resolution between the two parties. Ray Lewis needs to make a choice for Ray Lewis, and that choice should be to engage in society in a proper and civilized way, otherwise he will face the consequences no matter his reasons.”
Lewis’ family have reportedly been trying to get him into playing board games in recent weeks, apparently to little avail.
