TOM BRADY BEATS ELI MANNING TO THE SHOWERS FOLLOWING SUPER BOWL LOSS
February 6 2012
Indianapolis, IN – For the second time in four years, Tom Brady and Eli Manning met up in the Super Bowl on Sunday, and for the second time in four years the results were exactly that same. Manning and Giants, an unlikely candidate to even be in the big game, battling once of the great offensive sides ever put together, eked out a win in a game that literally wasn’t decided until the final seconds.
The Giants, and their fans, were of course thrilled with the win, not only because it was the Super Bowl but also because it was against the hated Patriots, one of the few teams in the NFL it’s okay for everyone to dislike.
The Patriots though weren’t so happy with the results. Tom Brady in particular, perhaps sensing that this was his last chance at the big title after already having won three, seemed particularly despondent after not being able to bring his team back from the brink and deliver another big game win in what has been an emotional season. While the Giants celebrated on field, with Manning revelling in his second Lombardi Trophy, the Patriots slinked to the locker room and dealt with the loss in their own way. Brady, distraught over the loss, at least took comfort in the fact that he got in the showers before Manning, allowing him to feel fresh and clean while his rival was soaked in champagne and victory.
"First, I’d like to give the Giants a lot of credit. They certainly made the plays when they needed. They made a few more plays than we did,” Brady said after the game, smelling fresh and clean, vaguely of baby powder. “I’d love to keep coming back to this game and taking a shot. It’s better than sitting at home and not playing in this game.”
Manning was too busy celebrating with his teammates and holding the most coveted prize in football to respond to Brady’s comments.
According to some in the locker room, Manning smelled pretty bad for a few hours before he finally went for a shower.
“It was a good game and, frankly, the Patriots were lucky they made it as close as they did. They had a couple good series but the Giants were clearly the better team in virtually all aspects of the game. The Patriots should be glad they made it as close as they did, though I’m sure that won’t be enough for them,” said Scrape TV Sports analyst Mark Marvins. “It’s nice to have plaudits, it’s respectful to say those things, but ultimately it does very little to make the guys who lost feel any better, and the Patriots lost so I’m sure it won’t help them any.”
Brady’s wife Gisele Bundchen lambasted the Patriot receivers which likely didn’t help anyone feel better, though to be fair she was angry about being pulled away from the mirror for the game.
“This may well be the end of the line for Brady and I’m sure that was something very much on his mind. He’s 34 which is long in the tooth for a football player of any caliber. It could well be that he will never see the inside of a Super Bowl change room again, never take that postgame shower, so hopefully he took full advantage of this one,” continued Marvins. “It’s a small satisfaction, having beaten Manning to the showers but at least it’s something. The world may have seemed to be coming down around him last night but at least he smelled baby fresh which is something he can take away from the game confidently.”
It’s not clear if Brady woke up with the stench of failure on him this morning, nor if he was able to beat Manning to the shower today to wash that away.
