TOM BRADY INJURY CAUSES NFL TO RECONSIDER SEASON
September 8 2008
Boston, MA – With perennial superstar apparently out for the season with a torn ACL, the New England Patriots and NFL are considering whether or not it was even worth showing up for the season. The all star quarterback was felled early in the first quarter of the team’s first game of the season.
While last year’s nearly perfect team still managed to win the game against the Kansas City Chiefs, the absence of the reigning Most Valuable Player will no doubt be felt both by the team, and league as a whole.

“We are going to go out and play,” said head coach Bill Belichick. “We are looking at Tom and his injury but with or without him, we have a game to prepare for next week, unless the NFL changes its mind.”
Officially league officials have had no comment on the situation, but rumours of a delay to the season or perhaps scrapping the remaining games is a rumour currently running through the league.
“We have to wait and see what the extent of his injury is,” said an insider who preferred to remain anonymous. “We haven’t significantly played with the schedule since the World Trade Center attacks, and we took it very seriously when that happened. This could be one of those rare situations but right now it’s too early to tell. The league has honestly never been in this spot before, with our biggest star out for the season. It could be devastating and I know league officials are very upset. We’ll have to wait and see.”
At the very least, the league is considering new options to protect superstar players. While many procedures have been put into place to prevent injuries to name players—specifically quarterbacks—this latest injury might provoke them into making even more drastic changes.
“The league realizes that football is a contact sport, but at the same time they have a responsibility to do what is best for the business,” said our insider. “Protecting the quarterback has always been a priority for them but with Brady down, they may have the initiative and bargaining power to get some of those things done. Ideas like bubble wrap, or going to two hand touch with QB's might be on the books. The reality is if Brady hadn’t been hit, he wouldn’t have been injured. It’s always best to solve the problem rather than band aid the problem. We’ll have to wait and see, but changes will come as a result of this, mark my words.”
NFL officials had no comment on the situation. Reached for comment, Drew Bledsoe, who was replaced by Brady after an injury, giggled.
