AFTER WIKILEAKS DRAMA AL GORE EXPRESSES REGRET FOR INVENTING THE INTERNET

December 9 2010

Washington, D.C. – It has become increasingly clear in recent years the internet is not a normal type of technology, not an advance in ways that we traditionally see them happen, but a total renovation of the way in which we communicate and interact the internet
with one another. While it’s certainly true that much of what we find over the internet, particularly web sites, are inane, useless, and just plain stupid, the sheer amount of valuable information and the way in which it is disseminated is truly a revolution the likes of which humanity has not seen since the invention of language.

Because of that power, inevitably the technology has its enemies. Much like the myth of Babylon, the Almighty powers seek to confuse the language and confuse the masses. Those forces though are being fought. The maturity of the medium and the global nature of cooperation may make such efforts ultimately useless. The current battle against and for WikiLeaks is perhaps the best example of such an eventuality, a battle whose ultimate end is still very much up in the air. With power players on both sides in an uproar, finally the man most responsible for creating the technology in the first place, Al Gore, is making his opinion known and isn’t happy, not one bit.al gore sad

“All is pretty upset over the whole thing. He’s really agitated that his creation is being used in this way, as a kind of political pawn. He hasn’t really stated whether he believes that the site was right or wrong in releasing those documents but this battle is really upsetting him,” said a Gore insider. “He realizes that this battle is essentially one of free speech and what form and direction that free speech takes, but all this fussing and feuding is really weighing heavily on him. He doesn’t like that his creation and the institutions that he holds so dear are at each others necks. Simply put, he didn’t invent the internet for this.”

Both Vint Cerf and Bob Kahn, the men who physically the early versions of the internet, have publicly acknowledged Gore’s participation in its creation.julian assange

“There are certainly going to be a lot of lessons learned from this situation no matter how it plays out. We have issues of international intrigue, the safety and security of intelligence systems, and the very core notion of what free speech means in the modern age. This debate may seem even a little silly on the surface but its impacts will likely be far reaching,” said Scrape TV Technology analyst Ken Kevins. “Having major players behind the internet come out publicly and state their opinions will likely have a marginal impact on the way things turn out, but it is good to hear that they are paying attention, that they haven’t abandoned their creation.”

Neither Cerf nor Kahn has made statements about the current debacle.al gore

“It was clear even from the very beginning that the internet wasn’t going to be used for simple or even docile purposes. The capabilities of the medium were understood by all kinds of forces, both good and bad, almost from the start and that hasn’t changed,” continued Kevins. “Here we have one of many debates that has existed on and about the internet and what it is doing to us as a culture and as a people and it may that that debate is the most important thing about this. In light of that, Gore shouldn’t be too upset about his creation. Much like nuclear power can kill millions, it can also cure cancer. Gore should be proud even if he is understandably upset about the whole thing.”

Gore is reportedly seeking solace from his recently estranged wife during the debacle.
