APPLE MILITARY COMMANDER STEPS DOWN IN WAKE OF SCANDAL
November 6 2011
Cupertino, CA – It was supposed to be a secret mission, a clandestine operation to root out a missing project worth millions of dollars. Research was done, sources confirmed and finally, with enough information, authorities struck. Unfortunately, they struck the wrong person.
All of this went down in July and almost immediately it became national news. Authorities for Apple has been seeking a lost iPhone prototype and in their rush to secure the product made some serious mistakes, mistakes that saw them break down the door of an innocent man and expose the inner workings of their intelligence force for the whole world to see, a mistake that cost the man at the top his job.
John Theriault, a former corporate security agent and FBI officer, has been terminated from the company, leaving the company with a hole at the top, but a renewed mandate to secure their products and to wage war against any who stand in their way.
“John was a good person but he did make some strange decisions. Most of the time people were okay with that, but when things came out, well that was a big deal. The last thing anyone wanted was exposure on this thing but it happened and now we have to deal with it,” said an Apple insider. “They had kept the details of that division pretty quiet for a long time but this forced their hand, and John was the fall guy. It’s not really fair to him, honestly, but that’s what happens a lot of the time in this business.”
In the incident in question, police raided a home alongside Apple agents. The Apple forces did not identify themselves as such. The story quickly went viral.
Apple has reportedly reshuffled much of its police and intelligence services since the incident went public, trying to prevent such an incident from happening again in the future.
“This was far too much exposure for Apple forces, way more than they could have been comfortable with. It was a bad situation for a lot of reasons, not the least of which is the now widespread knowledge that such a force exists, which could drive criminals further underground,” said Scrape TV Technology analyst Ken Kevins. “It’s a bad situation all around, frankly, and has created a lot of bad publicity for the company. Someone had to fall and obviously it was Theriault.”
Theriault had been with the company since 2007, officially anyways.
“I’m sure we will never know who is taking over for him and what type of operations they run again in the future. This was just a breakdown on an incredible scale and certainly not becoming of one of the most powerful companies in the San Francisco Bay Area, not at all,” continued Kevins. “This will compromise their relationship with police officials and prevent them from undertaking certain investigations. It’s a good thing they are changing, and a good thing they are changing the man at the top.”
The terms of Theriault’s departure are being kept secret, for now.
