APPLE POLICE RAID HOME IN SEARCH FOR LOST IPHONE PROTOTYPE
September 4 2011
San Francisco, CA – When it’s released, the iPhone 5 will be huge news. It’s always huge news when a new Apple product is released and iPhone is the big daddy. Fans will go crazy, sales will explode, and the press will go wild. Even if the prototype has leaked.
That is, apparently, exactly what has happened. Like many of the models before it, the latest version of the iPhone has somehow escaped the confines of Apple headquarters and made it into the wild. Apple, of course, isn’t all that happy about that happening and has launched a full scale investigation into the apparent theft. Acting on information gained through that investigation, the Apple police force teamed with San Francisco officials to raid the home of man believed to have the stolen phone
“We are in the midst of an investigation and when that is concluded we will have complete details. Apple works hard and spends a great deal of money to bring these products to market and anytime we have a leak or a theft it is a very big deal,” said a spokesperson for the Apple police department. “We have joined forces with local law enforcement in the search for our missing product and we will continue the investigation until it is returned.”
The phone was tracked to a San Francisco home via its GPS tracker. Apple police teamed with San Francisco officers to raid the residence but the phone was apparently not found. Apple has apparently turned the investigation back to their home territory since the raid.
“We are always willing to work with other law enforcement agencies in the recovery of stolen items, particularly high value stolen items. We generally do not raid homes over stolen candy bars or DVD’s but we felt that our participation was warranted in this particular case,” said a spokesperson for the San Francisco police department. “We were contacted by members of the Apple intelligence service and they related information that indicated this particular product may have been in our jurisdiction. In coordination with their people we conducted a raid of a local home but were unable to recover said item. We are still working closely with the Apple services in order to recover this item.”
The local man was questioned by AIS, the internal Apple intelligence division, before being remained to San Francisco authorities and then released. It’s not clear if he is still the subject of the investigation. In the past, Apple has seized properties involved with such thefts.
“It seems almost comical that every time they build a new iPhone someone brings it to a bar and it gets stolen. I mean it’s strange that people are bringing it to bars in the first

place, but how many people leave their phones unattended? That seems to be a major internal issue and shows, just as this flawed raid does, that Apple intelligence needs a little work before it can be considered a fully-fledged operation,” said Scrape TV Technology analyst Ken Kevins. “They do keep things mostly under wraps and that is good, but they still have these embarrassing leaks. They should probably look into keeping all the phone on site rather than letting people wander off with them, that would reduce the thefts in bars. Of course, then Apple intelligence wouldn’t be as well known. Perhaps that is part of the plan, to get them out there and let everyone know they are watching. If so, well done Apple. Well done.”
