APPLE TO STOP EMPLOYING TODDLERS AT PRODUCTION FACILITIES
March 6 2010
Cupertino, CA – Everyone loves a comeback. Watching someone turn things around after incredible odds made success some impossible can be one of the most satisfying experiences. Much of that is due to our desire to do the same, to turn the tables on

those who have wronged us, to redeem ourselves after a lifetime of mistakes. Very rarely do we have that opportunity in real life so when we watch someone else pull themselves from the mire of failure, our hearts soar with them.
Such has been the case with Apple. A company literally formed in a garage that rose to incredible heights, changing the face of what would become one of the most important tools in human history. Shortly after that rise however the company fell on hard times, with failure after failure, and seemed for a time doomed to corporate graveyard. And then, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, her founder returned, bringing with him new energy and new innovation, not only giving the company a chance at success again, but eventually becoming one of the biggest on the planet. Apple’s turnaround has truly been one of the most remarkable stories in the history of enterprise and now the company’s leadership has decided to give a break to the people upon whom that success was built, Asian toddlers.
“We at Apple have had a great deal of success in the last few years, to put it mildly, and we want the people who have helped make that success to have a much larger share. To that end we are going to give all of our workers throughout the world a little time off,” said a spokesperson for the company. “Everyone under the age of six will be reduced, those between the ages of seven and ten will be given more time off, and everyone else will see reduced hours and more vacation time. This is the least we can do for the people who have done so much for us.”
Though the company didn’t give exact numbers, it’s believed that the minimum working hours will be reduced by at least two a week, to 58. The company also assured young workers that once they reached a certain age they would be welcomed back.
“Apple has, better than most companies, weathered the recession very well but they still face challenges. Much of that has to do with the diminishing excitement of their product lines as well as just sheer market saturation. They have created products that do everything, so people are a lot less inclined to buy more things,” said Scrape TV Business analyst Ken Green. “That’s at least part of the reason for this. I’m sure they genuinely do want to reward their workers, particularly the younger ones who still have a lot of years left in the company, but make no mistake about it; this is mostly about saving money. However, it is win-win so who’s complaining?”
It is believed that the diminished toddlers will put up little fuss over their reduced working hours.
“There is little lost here for the company. Workers older than seven have the best of both worlds. They still have small hands, huge amounts of energy, and good vision but also the maturity to work long hours. They are really the future of the company and they want to ensure that they are ready to go by the time they hit that age,” continued Green. “It will be interesting to see if other major companies follow suit. Electronics always has been a young people’s game and so Apple has been a big draw. Now however there will be a fresh crop of workers for other companies and I’m sure they will be doing some hiring.”
The toddler union had no comment on the cutbacks.
