IBM WILL LIKELY BE USING MIND READING COMPUTERS IN FIVE YEARS
December 21 2011
Armonk, NY – There was a time when IBM was one of the biggest companies in the world. When they were founded one hundred years ago, the company revolutionized business machines and efficiency and for most of its life, the company stayed on the cutting edge, eventually becoming, for a time, the largest computer manufacturer in the world.
Things have changed for the company in recent years. They are still massive, generating billions every year in revenue, and have invested in all types of newer technologies both for now and the future, but the name IBM has started to languish. For a time, that brand was computing and now is little more than some vague background entity, more a memory than a real living company.
However, the company has not stayed around for a hundred years without learning a few tricks and as the world starts to move into new and only vaguely defined territory – cloud computing, nanotechnology, Quantum computing – it may be in the best position of any of its competitors to expand in the new world. To further that end, the company has started to develop mind reading computers which they believe will be viable in as little as five years, allowing them to know exactly what their customers want, and what their competition is thinking.
“It’s a very viable technology that is still a few years off, but we think, so to speak, that using your brain to access devices will become standard very soon. Not only PC’s but also phones and tablets and anything else that has digital interface,” said an IBM insider. “Like anything, that technology will evolve but we feel that the early stages are here already and if we are the ones who get to it first we will be in a good position to exploit it.”
The company is also pushing technology that will allow them to not only understand what a person is thinking, but to also manipulate those thoughts to, presumably, purchasing IBM products.
“In the long term it won’t just be a read only type of technology. We will be able to integrate thoughts and patterns into the human brain, like The Matrix, allowing people to learn at an incredibly advanced rate. That is the future and we believe we are in the pilot’s seat,” continued the insider. “We’ve seen what the competition is doing, don’t ask me how because I won’t tell, and we are way beyond them. Very shortly we will be on the threshold of a whole new way of computing and of marketing and that is very exciting.”
Other companies such as Microsoft have been working on similar technology, sort of like they are all reading each other’s minds.
“The divide between humans and computers is steadily eroding. Very soon, I think, we will be at a stage where there is little or no distinction between the two devices and that is very exciting, not only for the intellectual possibilities, but also for the value to market share,” said Scrape TV Business analyst Ken Green. “IBM is still strong, but you can always be stronger and if they are eventually able to read people’s minds and even manipulate them, that will be a huge advantage. They will also be able to lock out other companies and that will mean huge profits in the long term.”
The article was written with a totally independent mind.
