MARK ZUCKERBERG ACCUSED OF STEALING EIGHT-YEAR OLD’S PUPPY
March 7 2011
Portland, OR – In ‘The Social Network’ Mark Zuckerberg is portrayed as a thieving, insecure, and occasionally pathetic person who just happened to have brilliant coding skills, enabling him to become a billionaire. There is little doubt that Zuckerberg is
possessed of the genius that was portrayed in the film, though much of those other traits are up for debate. However the thieving portion is at least partially true, acknowledged in the real world with multi-million dollar settlements with former associates and friends.
Of course bad blood and people being pushed out of business deal are nothing new in the corporate world and in fact are played out nearly every day. In Zuckerberg’s case however, being the face of one of the most popular companies on the planet, those secrets were laid very bare for everyone to see and for filmmakers to popularize. The truth of the matter is probably somewhere between the events dramatized in the movie and public statements by the principles, but Zuckerberg, genius aside, will likely always be regarded in some areas as a person not totally straightforward in his dealings. There is little doubt that whatever offences Zuckerberg did indeed commit, he has likely learned his lesson, or at least one would like to believe that is so. However, as one eight-year old girl found out the hard way, the Facebook billionaire may still have a lesson or two to learn.
“When we woke up in the morning we found the dog bed empty. We looked all over the place and couldn’t find the dog anywhere. We didn’t know what to do and my daughter was crying and screaming. Finally I called my husband and he told us what happened,” said Sara Carter, 28, of Portland, Oregon. “Basically he ran into Mark Zuckerberg and mentioned that we had just gotten this puppy. Zuckerberg said he had been looking for a dog and asked to come over to see it which he did. My husband went to bed and I guess he left the front door open. When he woke up the dog was gone and now seeing those pictures, I mean that’s our dog.”
The Carters are currently exploring legal options.
“The dog was just a puppy and we only had him for a little while but our daughter is
eight and she really loved the dog. Kids get really attached to things really quickly and she is very upset about the whole thing,” continued Carter. “The biggest problem as we see it is that every day he spends with the dog the more attached it will get. Our claim on the puppy gets weaker every single day and so we would like some immediate intervention, take the puppy away at least until we can sort out the ownership issue. We went out and adopted the dog, we got it it’s shots, we fed it, took it to the vet, it’s our dog and Zuckerberg doesn’t have to right to take it away.”
Facebook officials stated that Zuckerberg adopted the dog by himself and the conversation with the Carters did not influence his decision.
“Unfortunately this is one of those he said, she said situations that rarely ends up well for anyone. Ultimately someone is going to be on the losing end of this thing, a side Zuckerberg in a strange way has been in many times before,” said Scrape TV Technology analyst Ken Kevins. “I mean yes he likely stole the idea for Facebook and that made him a billionaire, but he was also dinged for it financially and his reputation has suffered pretty significantly. He is rich and famous, but he’s also know for being a bit of a weasel and that is likely the thing that hurts the most. Hopefully this situation doesn’t turn out the same way.”
Zuckerberg and his girlfriend reportedly named the dog ‘Beast’ after rejecting a few names including Ed.
