MICE OPEN UP NEW MARKETS FOR THE ONGOING GROWTH OF TWITTER

December 24 2010

San Francisco, CA – In the era of start-ups and dot com booms and busts tales of success stories have become a dime a dozen. With literally thousands of companies trying to forge a place for themselves on the web every day and only a few actually twitter
making money, it’s quite understandable that fatigue has started to settle in amongst observers, even with the more successful of those stories. Part of that fatigue is no doubt due to continued failures of successes, from old stories such as Pets.com to more recent declines such as MySpace whose fall was as precipitous as their success.

While the eventual fate of the current crop of internet companies is still up in the air, the coverage continues, albeit with slightly less enthusiasm. IPO’s aren’t nearly as forthcoming and purchase prices from larger companies are significantly smaller than they once were. Revenue for many of those businesses remain low and investor faith in their long term success is not nearly as forthcoming as it once was, prompting many of those companies to seek new markets and new audiences. As one of the most prominent of modern companies, Twitter is one of those trying to plot out its future in the midst of all kinds of and has apparently found a new path in courting non-human animals.mouse

“These tweeting mice came about totally by accident. We have been using genetically modified mice for decades trying to determine how cross breeding and genetic modification interplay together and how things like mutations occur, this is how we created the original singing mouse,” said lead mouse researcher Arikuni Uchimura of Osaka University. “These tweeting mice have come about utterly by accident. This is not a mutation or a direction in which we anticipated they would travel but this is where they have gone. The mice have created a totally new mutation that is beyond anything we could have anticipated and that was the purpose of these experiments.”

Thus far the singing mice have had no interest from record companies, unlike their peers.mickey mouse

“This is really a sign that shows how far Twitter has grown. In the past websites of all manner have been solely the domain of human beings but now we are branching into entirely other species, something no one has done yet. We feel that not only is this a great scientific leap forward but is also a huge business opportunity for our company in that it opens up totally new directions and avenues for exploration,” said a spokesperson for the company. “Never before has any mainstream human company been able to tap into the rodent market but now we have a group of these animals who are not only capable but actually designed to work with our technology and we believe that this is only the beginning of great things for these animals and for Twitter.”

It’s not immediately clear what might be on the minds of the mice.hitchhikers guide to the galaxy

“Mice may seem like an odd choice to explore a web business with, largely because of their small brains and lack of fingers, but it opens up the possibilities of exploring entirely new and dynamic fields. Whether or not they are able to profit from the addition of mice to their user base the mere fact that they are now able to open things up to non-human species of which there is a huge population,” said Scrape TV Business analyst Ken Green. “What they have to say may be limited or even pointless but that wouldn’t be all that different from what normally goes on in the Twitter universe. More signups mean more money and with literally billions of new potential customers Twitter is now in a very formidable spot.”

It’s not clear what the broadband or Wi-Fi penetration is with the rodent population.
