NEW APPLE CEO TIM COOK MAKING CHANGES WITH JOBS OUT OF THE WAY
November 3 2011
Cupertino, CA – Since his death many stories, both good and bad, have floated to the surface regarding Steve Jobs. Few would doubt his genius, and even in his lifetime his almost maniacal focus on details, and penchant for not suffering fools, were well known. Since his death, though, a more balanced portrait of Jobs has appeared, making him almost human, or at least approaching human.
For most people, fans of Apple or not, who or what Steve Jobs was is only marginally relevant. Interesting perhaps but ultimately not that important. He was, after all, a CEO and a celebrity and not intimately connected to the majority of people. Some, though, felt his presence regularly. His family and his co-workers knew a different Steve Jobs, both the good and bad, and they have a real stake in his absence.
There is perhaps no person at Apple that is more true of than Tim Cook who stepped into the role of CEO after Jobs’ resignation earlier this year. Now, with Jobs totally out of the picture, Cook has started to remake the company into his own vision, doing away with the past and finally getting out from under that long and heavy shadow, just as he intended all along.
“Things haven’t changed that much, like not dramatically, but there have been some small things that we have noticed and most of them are really great. They have really changed the attitudes around the place and they are really welcome,” said an Apple insider who preferred to remain anonymous. “Tim is a nice guy. Steve was great, but Tim is great too. It’s a lot more relaxed, I can tell you that.”
Publicly the only major changes that have occurred are increases in donations, something Jobs opposed, and using the word ‘Team’ in company emails, something Jobs was also very much against.
Cook is also apparently planning on making a number of other changes that Jobs opposed, having now a free hand to do what he wants.
“People were sad when Steve died, he was such a dominant presence that you really felt him being gone. Tim isn’t that way, so like if he died tomorrow no one would really notice, but personally, I really like some of the things he has done. I like being able to bring coffee into work,” continued the insider. “It’s a lot more relaxed now, at least right now. I don’t know what he has planned for the future but right now things are much more easy going an relaxed and that makes it easier to do our job.”
Cook has apparently also allowed staff to bring their own lunches to work. Jobs forced employees to purchase from the over-priced cafeteria or to eat off campus.
“It’s pretty clear that things are going to change at Apple. Cook is a different kind of person, a logistics guy rather than a product guy, and the company under his direction is going to look a lot different now that he is free from Jobs for good,” said Scrape TV Business analyst Ken Green. “It had to have been hard having Jobs there all the time, even sick as he was. But now that he has gotten rid of him, or I mean now that Jobs is gone, well things are going to go a lot smoother for him. I didn’t mean that anyone got rid of Jobs, that would be silly.”
Officially, Jobs dies of cancer. Cook worked closely with Jobs all throughout his illness.
