STEVE JOBS ATTEMPTS TO HIJACK HIS OWN PLANE
September 16 2010
Cupertino, CA – No one would ever argue that Steve Jobs is anything but a major control freak. Reports from the inside of Apple are of a hulking presence that oversees every last detail and every last design element. The rare thing that does
wriggle out of Jobs’ control is often punished with fervour and near glee. One might think that would make Job’s a person to be feared, a person others stay away from but the exact opposite is true. Job’s engenders incredible loyalty amongst his staff and his customers in large part because of his controlling nature.
That success is undoubtedly a result of the product that is created because of his controlling nature. Like it or love it, Apple has become a huge success in recent years because if their distinct and precise design ethic and that ethic is due almost exclusively to Jobs’ precise and demanding nature. For Jobs it isn’t about ego, it’s about getting the job done right and that is something his company does far more often than not, at least under his rule. However not everyone agrees with Jobs’ demanding nature as he apparently found out during a trip to Japan in the summer. Jobs, returning stateside, was stopped at the airport while trying to board his private plane carrying shurikens and other edged weapons in an apparent attempt to take over the flight after a rocky landing earlier in the week.
“A passenger using a private jet was stopped at the end of July for carrying shuriken, which is the edged weapon known as throwing stars, and other blades. The weapons were removed from the passenger and they were allowed to board the plane without further incident,” said Takeshi Uno, a spokesman at Kansai airport. “The blades were thrown away. I cannot discuss the identity of the individual due to privacy concerns but all passengers coming through our airport are treated in the same manner. WE believe the flight took off without incident.”
Jobs reportedly used an Apple emblazoned pen to remove the pilot from his seat before taking control of the plane.
“Jobs is just about as much of a control freak as is possible but that is what has made him such a success. Hands off does work, but that is not how Jobs works and while some may see that as a deficit, it has obviously worked well for him and for everyone who works for the company, never mind fans who have enjoyed the fruit of his hard rule for years,” Martin Philton, Technology Correspondent. “It’s reasonable to assume that his hard rule at work will extend to other parts of his life. That is just the type of personality that he possesses and it isn’t going to suddenly change when he’s at home or travelling abroad. Obviously he felt the landing was too rough and he could have done better.”
Apple has denied that Steve Jobs is a ninja, pointing out that he could easily hire ninjas to do his dirty work.
“Frankly, what really concerns me about this whole story is what might have happened to this poor pilot who flubbed the landing. Was he left on the tarmac in Japan? Was he reprimanded and forced to spend the whole trip back in the cargo hold? Did he just disappear into some deep, dark hole at 1 Infinite Loop? We may never know the answer,” said Scrape TV Technology analyst Ken Kevins. “It’s likely though that there will be no shortage of people lining up to take over for him. That’s the oddest thing about Apple. No matter how hard things get people are always willing to line up and die for Steve, and more than a few are asked to do just that.”
Jobs apparently purchased replacement shurikens at a San Francisco store.
