TIM COOK MAY HAVE DONE AWAY WITH STEVE JOBS FOR MASSIVE PAYCHECK
January 10 2012
Cupertino, CA – No one was really all that surprised when Steve Jobs passed away last year. Though he had tried to keep his health problems a secret, being who he was, that didn’t work out very well. While no doubt much of the chatter about his ill health over the years was innuendo and rumour, as it turned out all those conversation were in the right realm, being pretty much exactly what ended up killing the Apple mogul.
Like all great moguls of the past, though, his company did not die with Jobs. The little garage corporation that no one thought would succeed, that struggled even after achieving success, is now one of the largest companies in the world and will likely go on for a very long time without Jobs.
For now, the man at the top is Jobs’ handpicked successor, Tim Cook, who took over the unenviable task of replacing a beloved legend. His long term success as a leader is something that will still be played out, something still to be determined, but one thing is for sure, he will never replace Jobs. Still, he can do a good job and is now being compensated quite well for the work he does do, far more than he got when Jobs was alive, making this the absolutely ideal situation for him, and a plan well executed.
“Tim is very happy with his compensation, obviously. It’s good gig and it’s quite a bump from last year. He knew he would get more as CEO but now that he has it, well, it’s something else entirely. This may finally buy him the island he has always wanted,” said an Apple insider. “It’s worked out perfectly. He only worked for a few months as CEO and he got this huge payday. I mean he had to do that other thing, but that was more pleasure than work.”
Cook will earn in the neighbourhood of $378 million, in cash, shares, and other sources.
Cook took over officially as CEO last August after having filled in the position a number of times previously, work for which he was not paid extra, though he claims to not be bitter or vengeful about that treatment.
“Cooksy is a good guy. He deserves all this success. He may not be the ‘genius’ that Jobs was but he works hard and does a good job and that is all that really matters, really. I mean Jobs spent most of the last few years going on stage and pretending like he was this guru, like the God of Apple, but he was lying around most of the time, getting liver transplants and chemotherapy or whatever new age crap he was doing. Meanwhile everyone else, including Cooksy, was working,” continued the insider. “I’m not saying that Jobs deserved to die or anything like that, I’m just saying that Cooksy has exactly what he deserved. He worked hard and he made this company really work and now he is being compensated for that so whatever he had to do to get that cash, well, he had to do it and now he has it.”
Cook reportedly used some of that fortune to send belated flowers to Jobs’ widow, though that was not done out of guilt. He has absolutely nothing to feel guilty about.
